ATLANTA-<\/strong> Delta Air Lines (DL) <\/a>is set to enhance its fleet by incorporating 20 new Airbus A350-1000<\/a> widebody aircraft, a move aimed at modernizing and streamlining its operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With the current operation of 28 A350-900s, Delta’s latest announcement signifies the addition of 36 next-gen A350 aircraft to its order book. This expansion is anticipated to bring the total A350 fleet to over 60 by the end of the decade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ed Bastian, Delta\u2019s Chief Executive Officer, highlighted the significance of the A350-1000, emphasizing its role as the largest and most capable aircraft in Delta\u2019s fleet. This strategic acquisition is viewed as a crucial step forward in Delta’s international expansion efforts. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The A350-1000 is expected to enhance the customer experience by offering more premium seats, best-in-class amenities, and expanded cargo capabilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Powering these new aircraft will be Rolls Royce <\/a>Trent XWB-97 engines, a more potent variant compared to those on the A350-900. With over 20% greater fuel efficiency than the retiring planes, this decision aligns with Delta\u2019s long-term sustainability goals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Christian Scherer, Chief Executive Officer of Airbus’ Commercial Aircraft business, expressed gratitude for Delta’s ongoing confidence in Airbus’ solutions to address its fleet requirements. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

He acknowledged Delta’s adoption of the A350-1000, emphasizing the new opportunities it brings for both the airline and its customers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Scherer took pride in the fact that Airbus aircraft now play a vital role in Delta’s extensive global network, supporting the airline in elevating fleet efficiency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The A350-1000 is slated for operation primarily in long-haul markets and international hubs, aligning with Delta’s international expansion strategy. These aircraft will replace retiring planes and contribute to the airline’s overall growth. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Delta’s commitment to expanding its global footprint is evident, with expectations to operate the largest international schedule in its history this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The introduction of these higher-gauge aircraft comes with notable enhancements in passenger experience. Approximately 15% more premium seats, including Delta One Suites, Delta Premium Select, and Delta Comfort+, will be available compared to retiring aircraft, in addition to Main Cabin seating. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Passengers can also enjoy world-class amenities such as over 1,000 hours of free in-flight entertainment from Delta Studio, complimentary high-speed in-flight Wi-Fi, and premium food and beverage options.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Furthermore, passengers will experience the A350-1000’s roomy and tranquil cabin, featuring high ceilings, ample bin space, and personalized ambient lighting crafted to alleviate fatigue and mitigate jet lag during extended flights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Delta has additionally inked an agreement with engine manufacturer Rolls Royce for the servicing of the XWB-97 engines. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The specific financial details of this arrangement were not disclosed, but it falls within Delta’s previously disclosed capital expenditure and capacity targets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With the commitments unveiled today, Delta currently has orders for 284 narrowbody and 48 widebody aircraft slated for delivery in the upcoming years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
