LONDON-<\/strong> On Wednesday morning (December 27, 2023), an American Airlines (AA) <\/a>flight, operating as Flight 134 with Boeing 777<\/a> from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX)<\/a> to Heathrow International Airport (LHR) in London<\/a>, encountered challenges while attempting a safe landing. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The aircraft faced turbulent conditions, including drifting, dipping, and bouncing, as the crew grappled with a strong crosswind around 11:40 a.m. local time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite the challenging circumstances, the plane eventually managed to come to a stop on the runway safely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Inclement weather, characterized by storms and high winds, disrupted operations throughout Europe <\/a>in the week leading up to the Christmas holiday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the preceding Thursday, elevated wind speeds led to the suspension of flights in certain regions of the United Kingdom, the halting of train services, and the temporary cessation of Scottish ferries. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

British Airways (BA) <\/a>reported that flight disruptions persisted on Friday, affecting air travel between Britain and other European destinations due to air traffic restrictions imposed as a result of the ongoing storm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Travelers aboard an Air Canada (AC)<\/a> flight from Tokyo Haneda (HND)<\/a> to Toronto (YYZ)<\/a> experienced a harrowing incident on Monday when their Boeing 777-300ER aircraft<\/a> landed amidst strong winds at Pearson Airport, narrowly avoiding a disaster.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A video shared on the aviation-focused YouTube channel Wake Turbulence Aviation captures the alarming event as the aircraft, completing its almost 12-hour journey (AC2<\/strong>), encountered intense crosswinds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Boeing 777-300ER\u2019s wings exhibited violent rocking moments before safely landing on runway 06L\/24R, surrounded by tire smoke.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The footage seems to have been captured from a location south of Convair Drive facing north, providing a view of the aircraft landing in a westerly direction on runway 06L\/24R amidst strong crosswinds reaching 17 knots (31.5 km\/h) and gusts of 26 knots (48 km\/h).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The apparent skillful response of the pilots played a crucial role in preventing flight AC2 from becoming a historical aviation incident, as they adeptly adjusted to the sudden shift in wind conditions, averting a potential disaster.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In response, an Air Canada representative informed blogTO that \u201cAir Canada flight AC002 <\/strong>from Narita experienced a hard landing due to crosswinds on arrival at Toronto Pearson on Nov. 13.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The airline added, \u201cAlthough the Boeing 777 aircraft <\/a>taxied to the gate normally after landing, as a precautionary measure, it was taken out of service for a full inspection.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
