LONDON-<\/strong> British Airways (BA)<\/a> provided guidelines to female flight attendants regarding the appropriate bras to wear with their new uniforms, which featured nearly see-through blouses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The official guidance initially specified that “undergarments should be plain white or nude, with no lace, patterns, or writing,” as reported by Business Insider. Following criticism from the flight attendants’ union, this particular directive was subsequently removed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

British Airways Instructions on Bras for Attendants<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

“We have eliminated a suggestion from our uniform guidelines and will consistently pay attention to the preferences of our colleagues,” stated a spokesperson from the airline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The airline underscored that it does not dictate what undergarments employees should wear, emphasizing that the guidance was intended to evolve in response to feedback.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reportedly, some female crew members felt uncomfortable when passengers started making comments about their bras.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The British Airways Stewards and Stewardess’ Union expressed astonishment at finding themselves in the awkward position of having to discuss the permitted underwear for female members in the year 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Uncomfortable Uniform<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The union pointed out that the need for such discussions could have been avoided if the uniform did not include a “transparent” blouse. The introduction of the new uniform was announced in January and implemented in September.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to the transparency issue, the new uniform also incorporates a high-collared neck, causing some crew members to experience rashes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite escalating complaints surrounding the new uniform, concerns about the transparency of the shirts were previously raised in 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Back in 2019, the former assistant general secretary of the Unite Union remarked, “In the 21st century, it is clearly neither appropriate nor acceptable that women should be put in a situation at work where they can be demeaned for their choice of undergarments.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
