DELHI-<\/strong> Reportedly, the Ministry of Labour Union has issued a show-cause notice to Air India Express (IX)<\/a>, currently under the ownership of the Tata Group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The notice is in response to alleged violations of regulations concerning disputes between the airline’s management and cabin crew members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Air India Express Notice<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The notice is specifically tied to concerns raised by cabin crew members, including issues related to room sharing during layovers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A formal complaint has been lodged with the labor department, and the issue is currently undergoing conciliation proceedings in accordance with the Industrial Disputes Act of 1947, as reported by the news agency PTI<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After being acquired by the Tata Group in January of the preceding year, Air India Express introduced certain policies that became the subject of the conciliation process. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the report from the news agency, the show-cause notice contends that the airline altered the service conditions of its employees while the conciliation proceedings related to disputes were still in progress under labor law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The notice raises inquiries about why action should not be initiated against the airline and its management for the purported violation of Section 33 of the Industrial Disputes Act 1947. This section specifically addresses the requirement for conditions of service to remain unchanged during the pendency of conciliation proceedings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Complain by AIXEU<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

As per the PTI report, the show-cause notice to Air India Express was reportedly issued by the Regional Labour Commissioner (Central) under the Office of the Deputy Chief Labour Commissioner (C) in the national capital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last month, the Air India Express Employees Union (AIXEU) communicated their concerns to Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia<\/strong>, highlighting various airline cabin crew members’ grievances. These concerns encompassed issues such as room sharing during layovers and terminating service contracts for certain members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In response to prior inquiries regarding these matters, an Air India Express spokesperson stated that the ongoing integration between the airline and AIX Connect aims to align policies and practices across both entities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This includes the practice of crew members sharing rooms during layovers, which is said to be consistent with market practices observed by other airlines in India and the region. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Additionally, it was mentioned that the profitable Air India Express is currently in the process of merging with the loss-making AIX Connect (formerly AirAsia India).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
