AHMEDABAD-<\/strong> Malaysia Airlines (MH) <\/a>celebrated the initiation of its first-ever flight from Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL)<\/a> to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport (AMD) in Ahmedabad<\/a>, India, with a farewell event at KLIA Terminal 1 on December 1, 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The inaugural flight, MH106<\/strong>, departed for AMD at 6:50 pm local time, marking the beginning of this new route.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Malaysia Airlines Ahmedabad Flights<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Passengers were treated to a delightful Northern Indian dance performance and received goodie bags as a gesture of appreciation from Malaysia Airlines, adding a joyful touch to their journey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The departure ceremony was graced by the presence of Captain Nasaruddin A. Bakar, Chief Operating Officer of Malaysia Airlines; Dersenish Aresandiran, Chief Commercial Officer of Airlines (MAG), along with senior officials from MAG and Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With the introduction of this new route, Malaysia Airlines now facilitates point-to-point connectivity from Kuala Lumpur to nine (9) major hubs in India, offering passengers an expanded array of choices and greater travel flexibility between the two countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The airline already operates non-stop flights to New Delhi, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kochi, Amritsar, and Trivandrum. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Furthermore, the airline recently announced an increase in frequency to Amritsar <\/a>from two times weekly to four times weekly, effective January 15, 2024, in response to robust demand and favorable load factor performance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

New Planes Incoming<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) envisions its wholly-owned subsidiary, Malaysia Airlines (MH), acquiring or leasing 60 new narrow-body planes in the next seven years as part of its ongoing fleet expansion and modernization initiative. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

These insights were disclosed by MAG’s Group Managing Director, Datuk Captain Izham Ismail, during his participation in the Airline Leader Interview session at the Centre of Aviation (CAPA) Asia Aviation Summit and Sustainability for Excellence Awards 2023 in Kuala Lumpur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He emphasized the company’s ongoing search for suitable replacements or comparable models to augment its existing fleet of Boeing<\/a> 737-800s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We maintain flexibility regarding aircraft types, given recent experiences with Boeing. We are considering options such as the Airbus A220 and the Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China Ltd (Comac). Our priority is to align the fleet with MAG’s mission, vision, and financial viability,” stated MAG Group Managing Director Datuk Captain Izham Ismail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He and his team at MAG expressed disappointment over the delay in the delivery of the company’s first Boeing 737 MAX 8. Originally scheduled for delivery in August, the Boeing company postponed it due to issues uncovered during test flights in Seattle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Additionally, Malaysia Airlines is poised to welcome its initial Airbus A330-900neo in September 2024, marking the first of the 20 units ordered by the airline. The Airbus<\/a> A330-900neo serves as an enhancement to Malaysia Airlines’ existing A330-200 and A330-300 fleet. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
