LONDON-<\/strong> Yesterday (on November 18, 2023), the flag carrier of the UK, British Airways (BA)<\/a>, flight from London Heathrow (LHR)<\/a> to New York’s Newark Airport (EWR)<\/a> made a U-turn after facing technical issues due to a broken heating element. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

London-based carrier and its codeshare partner operate dozens of flights to New York’s JFK and EWR combined. The airline deploys Boeing 777 <\/a>aircraft to serve this sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now, let us establish a flight timeline with the help of data from FlightRadar24<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The British Airways flight BA181 <\/strong>took from London Heathrow Airport (LHR) around 7:05 PM UTC. After being airborne for almost two hours, the flight crew reported issues with the heating element.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following this, they contacted the LHR Air Traffic Controller (ATC) and decided to make a U-Turn. At the time of this reporting incident, the flight was over the North Atlantic Ocean.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The aircraft landed safely back at LHR at around 10:13 PM UTC. It is unclear to us whether a new aircraft was arranged for the flight or they have been relocated to stay overnight for the next day’s flight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Planespotters.net, the flight was operated by Boeing 777-200 registered as G-YMMS<\/strong>. The aircraft involved in the incident is 14.6 years old and is powered by RR engines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
