American Airlines Boeing 777-200(ER) N781AN Photo_297, CC BY 2.0, https:\/\/commons.wikimedia.org\/w\/index.php?curid=33465818<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-american-airlines-fined-for-tarmac-delays\">American Airlines Fined for Tarmac Delays<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) recently imposed a $4.1 million fine on&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/aviationa2z.com\/?s=American+Airlines\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">American Airlines (AA)<\/a>&nbsp;for violating federal regulations and the Department\u2019s rule prohibiting tarmac delays exceeding three hours on domestic flights without allowing passengers to disembark.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The DOT\u2019s investigation revealed that American Airlines kept numerous flights stranded on the tarmac for extended durations without permitting passengers to deplane.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In response, the DOT is imposing the largest fine ever for tarmac delay infractions and demanding that American Airlines cease such violations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This fine is part of the DOT\u2019s comprehensive effort to safeguard the interests of travelers, which includes refunding over $2.5 billion to passengers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A thorough investigation by the Department\u2019s Office of Aviation Consumer Protection (OACP) uncovered that American Airlines, between 2018 and 2021, allowed 43 domestic flights to remain grounded on the tarmac for considerable periods, in breach of the Department\u2019s tarmac delay regulation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>DOT determined that none of the exceptions to this rule, including those related to safety and security, applied to these flights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Stay tuned with us.
