DUBAI-<\/strong> Emirates (EK)<\/a>, the leading international airline globally, has unveiled a substantial investment of US$950 million for the construction of a cutting-edge engineering facility at Dubai <\/a>World Central (DWC).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Encompassing an expansive 1 million square meters, this engineering complex is set to become the most extensive and technologically advanced facility of its kind operated by any airline. This development significantly enhances Dubai’s already top-tier aviation infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Emirates New Engineering Facility<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Designed specifically to cater to the needs of Emirates’ aircraft fleet and operational requirements well into the 2040s, the facility will serve as a crucial support hub and a center of excellence for commercial aviation engineering services in the Middle East. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

There is potential for spare capacity to be extended to other airline operators, further contributing to the region’s aviation capabilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking about the investment during the Dubai Airshow, HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Airlines and Group, stated, <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“This substantial investment reflects our confidence in the future growth of Emirates and the aviation sector. The new facility will empower Emirates to achieve complete self-sufficiency in maintenance, repairs, overhaul (MRO), and all engineering aspects for our aircraft fleet. It provides us with operational stability, flexibility, and quality assurance. With the anticipated expansion of the region\u2019s aviation sector, Emirates\u2019 upcoming engineering facility will serve as a center of excellence, attracting global players across the aviation supply chain. It is expected to generate thousands of skilled technical jobs and contribute significantly to Dubai\u2019s economy.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Emirates\u2019 advanced engineering facility will be fully equipped to handle a comprehensive range of specialized aircraft engineering services, covering routine checks, custom paint jobs, light to heavy maintenance programs, engine repairs and testing, and complete cabin interior fit-outs and aircraft conversions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ali Mubarak Al Soori, Emirates Group Executive Vice President for Facilities, Projects Management, Group Procurement, and Supply Chain, revealed, <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cConstruction work on Phase 1 is set to commence in 2024 and conclude in 2027. Provisions have been made for potential expansion in Phase 2, doubling the capacity in alignment with Emirates\u2019 fleet growth and operational needs. The new Emirates Engineering complex will prioritize sustainability in its design, incorporating green building materials, solar panels on roofs, and recycling systems for oils and wastewater.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Phase 1 Update<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Phase 1 of the project will deliver eight maintenance hangars, one paint hangar capable of handling commercial aircraft up to Code F (A380<\/a>) in size, an engine run-up facility, approximately 20 support workshops, extensive storage facilities, and administration offices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While the existing Emirates Engineering Centre at Dubai International (DXB) will continue supporting the airline\u2019s operations, the new complex at DWC will initially handle overflow work and manage heavy maintenance programs with longer aircraft ground time. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
