DELHI-<\/strong> During the commencement of the Northern Winter 2023\/24 season, Air India (AI) <\/a>introduced Airbus A321neo<\/a> service on an international route, commencing with operations on the Delhi (DEL)<\/a> \u2013 Kathmandu (KTM) route.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Starting October 29, 2023, the A321neo will be utilized for one of the three daily flights on this route.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

New Destinations and Routes<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Air India (AI)<\/a>\u00a0has recently unveiled intentions to include seven new or previously served airports into its network for the year 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s worth noting that the absence of certain airports, such as the frequently mentioned Boston, in this announcement doesn\u2019t necessarily mean they won\u2019t be added; the details on such additions are yet to be revealed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The information about these new airports was initially shared in a swiftly deleted tweet on X (formerly known as Twitter) by JetArena, a reputable and prolific commentator on Indian aviation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This announcement coincides with Air India\u2019s reception of another\u00a0Boeing 777<\/a>\u00a0(registered as OE-IUE, soon to be VT-AEP) and the imminent entry into service of its first\u00a0A350<\/a>\u00a0on January 22nd.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There is an expectation that services to\u00a0Dallas Fort Worth<\/a> (DFW), Los Angeles (LAX), Rome,\u00a0Seattle<\/a>, and Zurich (ZRH) will be initiated. Nevertheless, there is currently no publicly disclosed schedule for when these routes will be officially announced or become operational.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is assumed that these flights would likely operate from Delhi (DEL), which serves as Air India\u2019s primary hub.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Based on booking data by Cirium<\/em>, all five destinations had approximately 47,000 to 116,000 roundtrip point-to-point passengers to and from Delhi in 2019, and some of them have experienced substantial growth in the past year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Notably, the three locations in the United States (US) rank among the top five largest unserved North American markets from Air India’s hub in Delhi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mumbai to Melbourne Flights<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Melbourne Airport (MEL)<\/a> is set to introduce its inaugural non-stop flights from Mumbai (BOM)<\/a> as Tata-owned Air India (AI)<\/a> has officially announced the launch of this groundbreaking route starting in December.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As of December 15, the airline will initiate three weekly flights, with the possibility of expanding the frequency in response to growing demand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This new service connecting Mumbai will be serviced by Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft <\/a>and will complement Air India\u2019s current daily flights connecting Melbourne and Delhi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the previous fiscal year, Melbourne saw more Indian tourists than any other city in Australia<\/a>, with 433,000 Indian travelers <\/strong>passing through Victoria\u2019s primary international gateway in the 12 months leading up to June.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The introduction of the new Mumbai-Melbourne service will contribute nearly 40,000 additional seats<\/strong> each year to the Australian state of Victoria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is of particular significance given that the Indian community in Victoria exceeds 200,000 individuals, representing approximately 40% of the total Indian diaspora in Australia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The aim of these new services is to meet the increasing demand for visiting friends and relatives and to capture the growing interest in business and leisure travel to the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
