AUSTRALIA-<\/strong> Jetstar (JQ) <\/a>announces a significant investment in upgrading its Boeing<\/a> 787-8 fleet with a multi-million-dollar cabin product enhancement. The move coincides with indications of potential expansion into South Asia and Africa. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The low-cost subsidiary of Australia’s Qantas (QF)<\/a> plans to introduce new economy- and business-class seats developed by Recaro, along with onboard Wi-Fi connectivity and a designated crew rest area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jetstar’s Upgraded Cabin<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In late 2025, Jetstar will deploy the first aircraft with the updated cabin, conducting retrofit works during scheduled extensive maintenance. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The airline is set to increase the number of business-class seats on its 787s from 21 to 44, responding to a surge in customer demand for more options and enhanced comfort on long-haul flights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This change will result in a total seat count of 325, 10 seats fewer than the current setup. The new Recaro seats in both classes will offer seat-back device holders and power outlets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Enhanced Features in Seats<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Jetstar\u2019s 787 fleet will see a reduction in total seats to 325, marking a decrease of 10 seats from the current setup. The new Recaro seats in both classes will boast added features such as seat-back device holders and power outlets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As airline chief Stephanie Tully mentioned, including a crew rest area on the aircraft opens the door to exploring fresh destinations. She highlights the potential for new routes to regions like Sri Lanka and India, although Jetstar hasn’t finalized decisions on specific destinations yet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tully emphasizes that the significant investment in the fleet upgrade will offer customers a broader range of choices, enhanced comfort, and better amenities for longer international flights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Cirium fleets data, Jetstar’s in-service fleet comprises 11 GEnx-1B-powered Boeing <\/a>787-8s, operating medium- to long-haul flights to various cities, including Tokyo, Seoul, Bangkok, and Honolulu. These aircraft have an operational history ranging from eight to 10 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
