FORT WORTH-<\/strong> Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport (PHX) announced on social media that American Airlines (AA)<\/a> has introduced direct flights between PHX and Jacksonville International Airport (JAX) in Florida<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

American Airlines will deploy Airbus <\/a>A319s and A320s for this 1,786-mile (2,874-kilometer) route.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

American Airlines Phoenix to Jacksonville Flights<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

When the route was initially revealed on June 26, Philippe Puech, Director of Short-Haul Network Planning at American Airlines, emphasized the significance of the connection, stating,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“American Airlines is thrilled to introduce new nonstop service between Jacksonville International Airport and Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport this November. With service to eight destinations from JAX, American is pleased to provide customers with extended access to our global network as they begin planning winter getaways.”<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

As per information from FlightsFrom.com, Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX)<\/a> boasts American Airlines serving 100 destinations. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, American Airlines stands as the largest carrier for JAX, offering nonstop connections to Charlotte, Chicago, Dallas, Miami, Philadelphia, Washington DC, and Phoenix. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Additionally, it currently serves Austin, Texas, until January. It’s worth noting that American Airlines has previously announced route adjustments, including reductions to Austin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Swap Humidity for Desert Heat<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Jacksonville Aviation Authority’s CEO, Mark VanLoh, sees the new route as a solution to connecting with the largest untapped market. In the airport’s official statement, VanLoh expressed,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis nonstop flight will link us to our largest unserved market and offer excellent connecting opportunities for passengers. American Airlines has given Northeast Florida travelers an opportunity to trade in humidity for the desert heat.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This development aligns with JAX’s expansion efforts. For example, Concourse B, scheduled for completion in 2026, will feature six gates and a modern design akin to the existing concourses, emphasizing ample glass and natural light. Moreover, the new concourse has the flexibility to expand to 13 gates in the future if demand requires. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

JAX is also increasing parking capacity to accommodate travelers commuting to and from the airport. Furthermore, the two cities share medical centers like the Mayo Clinic and robust business connections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Executive Insights<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The City Government of Phoenix’s Aviation Department expressed its enthusiasm for the new link to Jacksonville, with Director of Aviation Services Chad Makovsky stating,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“American [Airlines] is an essential business partner, and we couldn’t be more pleased with their continued growth and investment in Phoenix. We’re also excited to see American will be launching nonstop service to Jacksonville, Florida, an entirely new market for us.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although PHX serves as one of America’s hub airports with over 100 routes, the airport still reached out to its followers through a tweet, encouraging them to consider flying to the new destination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition, Cirium reports that American Airlines operates flights from PHX to Orlando International Airport (MCO) and Tampa International Airport (TPA) using A321ceos and A321neos. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are also direct routes between PHX and Miami International Airport (MIA)<\/a> utilizing A321ceos, neos, and Boeing<\/a> 737 MAX 8s, totaling 619 flights and 116,704 seats in November 2023. Notably, the PHX-JAX connection represents only 8% of all Phoenix connections to Florida.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
