BIRMINGHAM-<\/strong> An Air France (AF)<\/a> A321 was preparing for takeoff at Birmingham (BHX)<\/a> while a Ryanair (FR) Boeing 737 <\/a>was on final approach, Accident Averted. The A321 aborted takeoff, and the 737-800 executed a go-around. The A321 departed later and reached Paris with a 14-minute delay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An Air France Airbus A321-200, registered as F-GTAZ and operating flight AF-1165 from Birmingham, UK, to Paris Charles de Gaulle, France, taxied for departure. It aligned with runway 33 via taxiway S1 and began its takeoff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Air France Ryanair Accident Averted<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

A Ryanair (FR)<\/a> Boeing 737-800, registered as EI-EFN, operating flight FR-1213 from Bydgoszcz, Poland, to Birmingham, UK, was in the final stages of its approach to runway 33 at Birmingham, reported Aviation Herald<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At a distance of approximately 3.5 nautical miles from the displaced runway threshold, the A321 crossed the hold short line.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The A321 aborted its takeoff at a relatively low speed, around 75 knots groundspeed, and exited the runway via taxiway T1, which was approximately 0.8 nautical miles from the beginning of the takeoff run.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, the Boeing 737-800 made the decision to perform a go-around. This decision was taken at an altitude of approximately 1000 feet above mean sea level. It occurred when the aircraft was about 1 nautical mile away from reaching the displaced runway threshold.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The aircraft then maneuvered for a subsequent approach to runway 33 and completed a safe landing about 15 minutes after executing the go-around.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The A321 went back to the holding point and resumed its departure approximately 16 minutes after the aborted takeoff, resulting in a delay of around 14 minutes for its arrival in Paris.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Similar Incident<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In September 2023, the United Aviation Regulator, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) that it is initiated an investigation into a close encounter involving a Southwest Airlines<\/a> (WN) Boeing 737<\/a> and a Cessna<\/a> Citation business jet in San Diego.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This incident is the latest in a series of concerning aviation events in the United States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the FAA\u2019s preliminary assessment, a situation occurred just before 12 p.m. PDT. An air traffic controller at San Diego International Airport (SAN) granted landing clearance to the Cessna Citation on a specific runway despite Southwest Airlines Flight 2493 already being instructed to taxi onto the same runway and await further departure instructions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The airport\u2019s automated surface surveillance system alerted the controller about the unfolding scenario, leading the controller to instruct the Cessna to abort its landing attempt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to an individual familiar with the situation, the preliminary assessment indicates that the Cessna crossed over the Southwest aircraft at a clearance of approximately 100 feet. The FAA is dispatching a team to the location to conduct an investigation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Southwest Airlines stated on Saturday that it is actively cooperating with the FAA\u2019s examination of the incident. The airline commented, \u201cOur aircraft departed without any issues, and the flight proceeded as planned, safely landing in San Jose.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has been investigating six separate runway incursion incidents since the beginning of this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
