PHILADELPHIA-<\/strong> A shooting occurred on Thursday night at Philadelphia International Airport (PHL),<\/a> resulting in the death of a Philadelphia police officer and injuries to another officer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Interim Commissioner John Stanford reported that the officers had just arrived to start their shifts at the airport and observed a vehicle break-in taking place in the parking garage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When the officers approached the suspects, they were met with gunfire. According to Stanford, one of the officers was struck multiple times in the torso, while the other was hit in the arm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The officer, who sustained multiple injuries, was swiftly transported to Penn Presbyterian Hospital, where he was declared deceased shortly after 11:30 p.m., as confirmed by Stanford. The second officer was taken to Jefferson Hospital, and police have reported that he is expected to survive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The officer who lost his life was a 22-year veteran of the Philadelphia Police Department, and he was married and had one child. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stanford described this tragic event as a deeply somber moment for the department, especially coming shortly after three officers were injured in a shooting the previous week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Authorities have not yet made any arrests in connection with the fatal shooting. Stanford explained that police suspect a potential suspect was taken to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia in a private vehicle, where he was pronounced deceased.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Law enforcement is actively searching for a black Dodge Durango that was reportedly spotted fleeing the scene of the shooting by forcibly breaching an airport gate, as reported by FOX 29’s Steve Keeley. Police are currently reviewing surveillance footage to help locate this vehicle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
