DUBAI-<\/strong> Emirates (EK) <\/a>has introduced new complimentary Wildlife amenity kits for its Premium Economy and Economy Class passengers on long-haul flights worldwide. These kits have been created in collaboration with United for Wildlife, featuring eight of the world’s most endangered species.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The preservation of wildlife and their habitats is a fundamental aspect of the Emirates Environmental Sustainability Framework.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Emirates Wildlife Amenity Kits<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

These new amenity kits emphasize Emirates’ ongoing partnership with United for Wildlife and their commitment to raising awareness about endangered species and combating the illegal trade of wildlife and wildlife products. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The animals showcased on the kit pouches and bookmarks include the green sea turtle, African <\/a>elephant, blue macaw, gorilla, hammerhead shark, lion, pangolin, and black rhino.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

United for Wildlife has provided significant statistics that underscore the gravity of the issue. For example, approximately 100 elephants are poached every day globally, which means that at the current poaching rates, elephants could become extinct in the wild by 2025. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The number of rhinos left in the wild has dwindled to just 30,000, compared to the 500,000 that existed at the beginning of the 20th century. Additionally, pangolins are now recognized as the most trafficked mammal in the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

David Fein, Co-Chair of United for Wildlife<\/a>, expressed his views on the matter: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The illegal wildlife trade is international organized crime that is driving many iconic species around the world towards extinction at an alarming rate. Airlines and other transport operators have a huge role to play in disrupting the traffickers’ supply chains. Emirates has consistently shown leadership and commitment in addressing this global threat. We are thrilled to see the new amenity kits from Emirates now onboard and hope that passengers find them informative and inspiring.”<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Zero-Tolerance Policy<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Emirates is actively engaged in the fight against illegal wildlife trafficking and exploitation and is a member of the United for Wildlife Transport Taskforce. The airline maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards the illegal trade of wildlife and wildlife products. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Its freight division, Emirates SkyCargo<\/a>, has implemented a comprehensive ban on the transportation of hunting trophies from elephants, rhinoceros, lions, and tigers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In June 2023, Emirates further demonstrated its commitment to environmentally responsible practices by achieving the IATA <\/a>Environmental Assessment (IEnvA) Stage One and the IEnvA Illegal Wildlife Trade module certifications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The newly introduced Emirates wildlife amenity kit pouches are designed to be reusable. They are made from washable kraft paper, featuring custom artwork of endangered animals printed in non-toxic soy-based ink. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The kit contents include a range of durable travel essentials crafted from materials that reduce the use of virgin plastic. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

For instance, the toothbrush is created from a combination of wheat straw and plastic, while the socks and eyeshades are manufactured from recycled plastic, specifically rPET (recycled polyethene terephthalate). Responding to customer requests, Emirates plans to reintroduce earplugs to the amenity kits at the end of the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
