NEW YORK-<\/strong> New York airports<\/a> made a historic passenger record by welcoming the highest number of passengers ever in August, surpassing all previous records. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last month, the airports together registered more than 13 million passengers. These results indicate that air travel has largely returned to pre-pandemic levels, demonstrating a significant return to normalcy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

New York Airports Passenger Record<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

On Tuesday, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ) unveiled its August 2023 findings. At Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR), John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), and LaGuardia Airport (LGA), a record-breaking 13.3 million passengers traveled through, setting a new passenger record.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These numbers, exceeding the previous record from August 2019, officially declared last month as the busiest ever at these three airports. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the year to date, the airports in the region have accommodated over 96 million passengers. This represents a 2% increase, equivalent to approximately 1.5 million more passengers compared to the pre-pandemic period, reported by PANYNJ.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The robust performance last month was fueled by increased domestic capacity at EWR and LGA. The authority reported a capacity increase of over 25,000 travelers compared to August 2019, which also marked growth from July this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Labor Days Travel Records<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The airports continued their record-breaking streak as the Labor Day holiday travel<\/a> period kicked off in September. According to the PANYNJ, JFK, EWR, and LGA collectively welcomed around 2.4 million travelers from August 31st to September 5th. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

These figures marked a remarkable 6% increase, surpassing the prior record of 2.26 million passengers set during the Labor Day holiday travel period in 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
