MUMBAI-<\/strong> Jet Airways<\/a> founder Naresh Goyal has approached the Bombay High Court challenging his arrest. The Enforcement Directorate in connection with the alleged laundering of a Rs 538.62-crore loan given by Canara Bank for the airline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Goyal claimed in his plea on Friday that his arrest was illegal and sought to set aside orders of a special court that had remanded him initially in ED custody and thereafter in judicial custody.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Goyal Claims Violation Of Fundamental Rights<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Goyal\u2019s plea was mentioned before a division bench of Justice Revati Mohite-Dere and Justice Gauri V Godse, which will hear it on September 20. Goyal claimed that the arrest violated his fundamental right to personal liberty, guaranteed under Article 21 of the Constitution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last Thursday, the special court remanded Goyal (74) to judicial custody at Arthur Road Jail for a duration of two weeks. This decision came about as the Enforcement Directorate (ED) did not request an extension of his custody. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Goyal had been apprehended by the ED on September 1 and had been under the agency’s custody for interrogation since then.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) took Goyal into custody, asserting that he had misappropriated the bank loan. He redirected corporate finances by enlisting his family members within the company and disbursing salaries to a firm established by his daughter. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Goyal refutes these allegations, maintaining that the funds were used for the company’s purposes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Enforcement Directorate Takes Goyal IN Custody<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The (ED) took Goyal into custody, asserting that he had misappropriated the bank loan. He redirected corporate finances by enlisting his family members within the company and disbursing salaries to a firm established by his daughter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Goyal refutes these allegations, maintaining that the funds were used for the company’s purposes. The bank’s grievance stems from a forensic audit conducted by an external audit firm spanning the years 2011 to 2019. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although the Canara Bank loan was categorized as a non-performing asset in 2019, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) contends that the sum of Rs 538 crore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ED asserts that this transpired under the guise of disbursing funds for professional and consultancy expenditures to different entities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
