LONDON-<\/strong> On September 15, 2023 (yesterday), the flag carrier of the UK, British Airways (BA)<\/a> flight from Hong Kong (HKG)<\/a> to London Heathrow (LHR)<\/a> made an emergency landing back at HKG.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The London-based carrier operates two daily flights between Hong Kong and London Heathrow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now, let us establish a flight timeline with the help of FlightRadar24 data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

British Airways flight BA28 <\/strong>took from Hong Kong at around 3:59 PM UTC. After being airborne for around 11 minutes, it started losing altitude from 16,000 feet to lower flight levels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The flight crew tried to maintain the altitude and fly higher. However, they were unable to do it due to some technical issues, which can be related to the instrument, flight, or cabin pressurization system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After making some holding patterns over the South China Sea and burning and dumping extra fuel, the flight diverted back to Hong Kong. At around 5:53 PM UTC, the flight landed safely at HKG after almost two hours to nowhere.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The flight was operated by Boeing <\/a>787-9 Dreamliner aircraft, registered as G-ZBKA<\/strong>. Further, it is an 8-year-old aircraft powered by two Rolls Royce Trent 1000 engines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Unhappy Passengers<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Few passengers showed dissatisfaction over this diversion and slammed the airline for lack of information. The passenger wrote this on X (formerly known as Twitter),<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“@British_Airways, it’s already been a 16-hour delay. Still no confirmed news\/email about when BA28 will be rescheduled to?? This was the last email at 09:00Hkt this morning. No news since then.”<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The airline also responded to the post stating, “Hi there. A tool on http:\/\/BA.com can be used to get the most up-to-date flight status. Here is a direct link: https:\/\/britishairways.com\/travel\/flightstatus\/public\/en_us\/results\/loaded?searchMethod=flight&date=2023-09-15&isDepartures=true&flightNumber=0028\u2026<\/a>. I’m sorry to say it does appear that the Ba28 is now not expected to depart until 00:20 on 17 August. John”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
