NEW YORK-<\/strong> SmartAsset, a financial advisory website, conducted a comparison using data from the Bureau of Transportation Statistics to assess the average cost of domestic flights departing from 72 major United States (US)<\/a> airports with more than 100,000 passengers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Surprisingly, the Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport in Alaska emerged as the most expensive airport for domestic flights in the United States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

SmartAsset’s analysis revealed that airfares at this Alaskan airport experienced an 11.61% change from the first quarter of 2022 to the first quarter of 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As noted on the airport’s website, it plays a vital role in supporting around 15,577 jobs within the airport and the local community, amounting to one in every ten jobs in Anchorage, Alaska.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The U.S. Department of Transportation highlights that Dulles boasts the highest international passenger traffic among Mid-Atlantic airports, excluding New York City.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Harry Reid International, formerly known as McCarran International Airport, serves the Las Vegas area and operates as a base for Allegiant Air, Frontier Airlines, Southwest Airlines, and Spirit Airlines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Ranking as the second most economical airport to fly out of, Kahului Airport in Maui, Hawaii, spans 1,391 acres and sits three miles east of Kahului. In the first quarter of 2023, the average airfare at Kahului Airport was $271.69, marking a 2.78% decrease from the Q1 2022 average price of $279.46.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
