KENYA, USA-<\/strong> Ethiopian Airlines (ET)<\/a> is set to embark on aircraft parts manufacturing in collaboration with Boeing<\/a>, commencing with an initial investment of $15 million, as confirmed by the government’s investment agency on Friday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The largest state-owned airline in Africa <\/a>has already concluded the agreement, which also includes participation from the local state Industrial Parks Development Corporation. Subsequently, the announcement made by the Ethiopian Investment Commission on X, formerly known as Twitter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ethiopian to Make Aircraft Parts for Boeing<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The collaboration aims to manufacture various aerospace components, encompassing aircraft thermo-acoustic insulation blankets, electrical wire harnesses, and other related parts, as stated by the commission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This investment endeavor is anticipated to generate job opportunities for over 300 individuals in Ethiopia, the commission added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, specific details regarding the commencement date of production were not disclosed, reports Reuters<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Several other African airlines, such as Kenya Airways (KQ)<\/a>, have voiced concerns over parts shortages due to the Ukraine war crisis, which has disrupted the supply of Russian titanium \u2013 a crucial element in global aviation components.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

India Plans<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In a positive development for the \u2018Make in India\u2019 initiative, a delegation from the prominent multinational aviation company Boeing<\/a>, based in the United States, recently paid a visit to Compaero India located in Kochi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Subsequently, this visit aimed to explore the possibility of procuring crucial aircraft components from the local company.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Recently, Boeing has been steadily increasing its procurement activities from India. Reports indicate that the U.S. aircraft manufacturer obtains over $1 billion worth of supplies from India. With approximately two-thirds of that figure attributed to manufacturing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to information available on the Boeing website, more than 300 Indian suppliers are engaged in the production of essential systems and components, including aerostructures, wire harnesses, avionics mission systems, and ground support equipment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Further, these components are utilized in some of Boeing\u2019s most advanced commercial and defense aircraft.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
