HONG KONG-<\/strong> The Cathay Group<\/a> has declared its plan today to order a maximum of 32 Airbus<\/a> A321neo and A320neo airliners, marking a step forward in its commitment to enhance and update its fleet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Additionally, this move aims to bolster flight connectivity at the Hong Kong International (HKG)<\/a> aviation hub. This procurement will elevate the total count of the Group’s newly acquired aircraft to over 70.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cathay Plans to Order 32 Airbus Aircraft<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Anticipated to arrive by 2029, these airplanes are set to integrate into Cathay Pacific (CX)<\/a> and HK Express (UO) operational fleets. Their primary focus will be on serving various destinations in the Chinese Mainland and other Asian regions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Out of the original order of 32 A321neos made in 2017, the Group has presently received 13 deliveries. This new procurement plan entails the acquisition of an additional 32 single-aisle Airbus aircraft, further augmenting the Group’s fleet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lease 18 A321neos<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Cathay Pacific (CX)<\/a>\u00a0is reportedly nearing an agreement to lease 18\u00a0Airbus<\/a>\u00a0A321neos in order to strengthen its short-haul fleet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sources familiar with the matter have revealed to\u00a0Bloomberg\u00a0<\/a><\/em>that the airline aims to deliver the\u00a0A321neos<\/a>\u00a0between late 2025 and 2027. However, the individuals are anonymously sharing this information as the discussions are not public.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As Airbus has almost filled up its delivery slots for A320neo-family aircraft until 2029, Cathay is pursuing this route to expedite its acquisition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Increased demand for aircraft due to significant orders placed by airlines like IndiGo (6E)<\/a> has led to leasing firms becoming an attractive option for securing planes for various operators.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Securing 18 aircraft through this arrangement would contribute to Cathay\u2019s objective of obtaining leased planes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In March,\u00a0Bloomberg News<\/em>\u00a0disclosed that Cathay and its low-cost subsidiary HK Express could potentially acquire up to 50 A320-family aircraft from leasing companies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
