PORT BLAIR-<\/strong> Prime Minister Narendra Modi<\/a> virtually inaugurated the Veer Savarkar International Airport’s<\/a> (IXZ) new integrated terminal building (NITB) in Port Blair, Andaman and Nicobar Islands today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Constructed at a cost of \u20b9708 crore, the state-of-the-art facility aims to boost connectivity to this picturesque union territory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

PM Modi Unveils New Terminal at Port Blair<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The inauguration ceremony was graced by the presence of Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, Union Minister of State for Road, Transport and Highways and Civil Aviation, General (Retd.) V K Singh, along with other senior officials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

PM Modi took to Twitter to share pictures of the terminal, highlighting how it will significantly benefit tourism. He said the new integrated terminal building at Veer Savarkar International Airport will ensure easier travel to Andaman and Nicobar Islands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr. Scindia also expressed his excitement on Twitter, calling it the “Gateway of #AndamanandNicobar, entering a new era of infrastructure development and enhanced connectivity!”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Covering around 40,800 sqm, the new integrated terminal building will have the capacity to serve approximately 50 lakh passengers annually, as per PTI reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This development is expected to boost tourism further and create new economic opportunities for the local communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Features of New Terminal<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The airport terminal’s architectural design resembles a shell-shaped structure, symbolizing the surrounding sea and islands. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The PMO highlighted several sustainability features, including a double-insulated roofing system to reduce heat gain. Further skylights for ample daylight utilization, LED lighting, and low heat gain glazing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To minimize negative environmental impacts, the terminal boasts a rainwater catchment system, an on-site sewage treatment plant, and a 500 KW solar power plant, ensuring efficient resource usage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The airport tarmac, built at a cost of \u20b980 crore, can accommodate two Boeing-767-400 and two Airbus-321-type aircraft simultaneously, with parking space for up to 10 aircraft at a time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
