TOULOUSE-<\/strong> Tata-owned Indian FSC Air India (AI)<\/a> is gearing up for the induction of Airbus A350s<\/a> into its fleet this November. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The airline has significantly developed in-house engineering capabilities, ensuring a smooth transition to the new long-haul aircraft.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Airbus A350s are part of the 470-plane order placed by Air India in February. Subsequently, comprising six A350-900 and 34 A350-1000 variants, these planes are set to operate on long-haul routes, enhancing the airline’s global connectivity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Air India Prepares for New A350s<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

As part of its preparation, Air India is leaving no stone unturned in training its cabin crew and pilots to handle the A350 aircraft effectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Air India has initiated training programs for its engineers and pilots to bolster its maintenance capabilities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Recently, a batch of engineers from Tata group-owned airlines AirAsia India (I5) and Vistara (UK) underwent specialized training on A350 aircraft at an Airbus<\/a> facility. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This strategic move enables them to service the new A350 planes and their current qualifications for Airbus A320, Boeing 737, and Boeing 787 aircraft.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Air India also focuses on selecting the right cabin crew for the A350 aircraft. The airline is conducting a merit-based selection process that includes a written assessment. Furthermore, the interviews by senior members of the in-flight services department. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This novel approach ensures that the selected cabin crew members are well-suited to handle the new fleet effectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pilot Training<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

For its pilot training, Air India is deputing experienced Airbus A320 commanders for a “cross-crew qualification” course. So far, four pilots have already undergone simulator training in Singapore<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Initially, A320 aircraft pilots are being chosen, and later, Boeing aircraft pilots will receive training on the A350 aircraft.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The similarity in cockpits of Airbus aircraft enables shorter-duration training for those transitioning from one Airbus model to another.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Furthermore, Air India has arranged for four trainers from Airbus to supervise the newly-trained pilots. They will take up training roles after completing mandatory courses and checks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
