For those who don’t know what APU is, here’s a brief description of it.

The Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) enables an aircraft to function independently without the need for external equipment like a ground power unit, an external air-conditioning unit, or a high-pressure air start cart, thereby ensuring autonomous operation.

In short, it is a small backup jet engine used to support aircraft for some time in case of Main engine problems.

Source TCN NEWS Telegram.‼️‼️‼️

An Emirates plane, which was supposed to fly to the UAE, caught fire at the St. Petersburg airport

According to preliminary data, one of the liner's engines caught fire. This is the location of APU, and they are doing it on a large scale to restrict it to that location only.

Further, the APU compartment has a firewall, which can prevent damage to another part of the aircraft and stop spreading it downstream. But the APU section also has fire extinguishers, so they have probably used them, but it might not be enough.

Anyways, at the end, the fire is extinguished on the aircraft, passengers are safe.
