DELHI-<\/strong> India’s Aviation Minister, Jyotiraditya Scindia, stated that it is an opportune time for Airbus<\/a> and Boeing<\/a> to explore the possibility of setting up manufacturing facilities in India. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

His remarks followed IndiGo (6E) Airline’s recent order for a record-breaking 500 A320 family aircraft from Airbus at Paris Air Show 2023. Subsequently, Air India (AI) has also placed a substantial order for 470 planes split between Airbus and Boeing<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Minister Scindia suggested that the time is right for these aircraft manufacturers to establish facilities in India to cater to the growing demand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Airbus and Boeing Should Set Up in India<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Scindia refrained from advising Airbus directly on its international strategy, emphasizing that the decision lies with the company. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, he indicated that Airbus already considered India a potential manufacturing hub. The minister cited the ongoing development of the C295 military aircraft facility in Vadodara as evidence of Airbus’ presence in the country. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The facility is a joint venture between Airbus and Tata Advanced Systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The minister highlighted the importance of wide-body aircraft in Indian carriers’ fleets to facilitate increased international operations. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

While IndiGo’s recent order focused on narrow-bodied planes, Scindia emphasized the versatility of Airbus’ A321 models. Which offer a significant range of capabilities suitable for international travel. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

He mentioned that IndiGo (6E) has already wet-leased some wide-bodied planes and expressed optimism about the airline’s future plans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Scindia hailed IndiGo’s massive aircraft order as a significant development in the aviation sector, emphasizing its potential to benefit the airlines and passengers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The expanded fleets of IndiGo and Air India are expected to contribute to India’s emergence as a prominent civil aviation hub. Scindia also highlighted Delhi Airport’s role as the country’s primary aviation hub.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition, the minister acknowledged the existing supply-chain challenges engine and aircraft manufacturers face. However, he expressed confidence that these issues will gradually resolve as the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic subside.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
