DELHI-<\/strong> Describing the IndiGo (6E) Airlines<\/a> order of 500 Airbus<\/a> aircraft at the Paris Air Show<\/a> as a significant milestone, Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia expressed his hope that India’s largest airline would also consider purchasing widebody aircraft.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While acknowledging the importance of the narrow-body versus wide-body classification, Minister Scindia emphasized the flexibility provided by certain aircraft models. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Scindia Hopes IndiGo Orders Widebody<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

For instance, the A321 has a range of approximately 3,800 km, while the A321 XLR can reach up to 5,000 km. This extended range enables international operations, blurring the distinction between narrow-body and wide-body aircraft.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ultimately, the decision regarding wide-body aircraft lies with IndiGo. The minister noted that the airline has already leased some wide-body aircraft that are currently in service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Minister Scindia highlighted the remarkable growth of the aviation sector in India. The fleet size increased by 75% from 400 in 2014 to 700. He also unveiled the government’s plan to establish India as an international aviation hub. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The aim is to shift the country’s focus from relying on hubs located outside its borders to establishing Delhi as the primary hub. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

With infrastructure expansion, fleet growth, and the establishment of an international presence in India, the Prime Minister’s vision of democratizing civil aviation is becoming a reality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers Speaks<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Elbers stated, \u201cWe are thrilled with the announcement we have just made for IndiGo. This order is the largest for our airline and the largest order ever placed for a single aircraft type with Airbus. It signifies a monumental moment for Indian aviation.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He further emphasized that this order reflects the remarkable growth of India, highlighting the country\u2019s promising future and the role IndiGo will play in it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With the addition of these 500 aircraft, IndiGo\u2019s fleet will soon approach nearly 1,000 aircraft. Elbers elaborated, \u201cThere are currently 482 aircraft in the pipeline, scheduled for delivery between today and the end of the decade.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Airbus IndiGo Completes 500 A320neo Deal<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

IndiGo has made a significant move by placing an extensive order for 500 A320 Family aircraft. Further marking the largest single purchase agreement ever witnessed in the commercial aviation industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With this latest deal, the total number of Airbus aircraft ordered by IndiGo now reaches an impressive 1,330. Further solidifying its position as the world\u2019s largest customer for the A320 Family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This momentous purchase agreement was signed by prominent individuals at the Paris Air Show 2023, including Rahul Bhatia, Promoter & Managing Director of IndiGo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
