DALLAS-<\/strong> The Southwest Airlines Pilots Association (SWAPA) Board of Directors has cancelled the 24-hour picket originally scheduled for June 15. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

SWAPA, the Southwest Airlines Pilots Association, is a non-profit employee organization based in Dallas, Texas. With over 10,000 members, SWAPA represents the pilots of Southwest Airlines. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The primary goal of SWAPA is to ensure a secure and fulfilling career for Southwest pilots and their families. This is achieved through contract negotiations, safeguarding contractual rights, and actively fostering professionalism and safety within the pilot community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Southwest cancelled the 24-hour picket<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

This decision was made in light of the unfortunate passing of Captain Richard Jenkins. He was a valued member of Southwest’s negotiating team. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

SWAPA extends its deepest condolences and prayers to Captain Jenkins’ family and colleagues during this difficult time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Three days back, SWAPA expressed growing frustration with Southwest Airlines’ lack of commitment to engage in negotiations during this cycle. SWAPA leaders have consistently requested more frequent bargaining dates to facilitate reaching an agreement. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, SWA Labor Relations has only committed to 15 days of negotiations between now and Labor Day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The purpose of the planned 24-hour picket is to symbolize the reliance Southwest leaders place on their pilots, who tirelessly work day and night, on weekdays and weekends, to transport passengers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In turn, SWAPA expects the company to demonstrate a similar level of commitment by coming to the negotiating table sincerely. Regardless of the time or day. SWAPA pilots are ready to work and engage in negotiations at any time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The negotiations between SWAPA and Southwest for a new contract have been ongoing for over three years. Federal mediation being involved since September 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
