LONDON, UK-<\/strong> The flag carrier of the United Kingdom, British Airways (BA)<\/a> flight BA783 from Stockholm Arlanda Airport (ARN), Sweden, to London Heathrow Airport (LHR), diverted to London<\/a> Gatwick.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The reason for the diversion is not clearly known. However, the probable reason may be that IT disruption at Heathrow could have led to this diversion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

British Airways Stockholm London Diversion<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

According to Flight Radar 24, British Airways flight BA783 operating the Airbus<\/a> A320neo has registration G-TTNR diverted on 28 May.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The aircraft took off from Sweden at 8:43 PM UTC. Subsequently, after being airborne for approximately two hours and covering a distance of 1468 kilometres, it diverted to LGW. Further, the aircraft made a touchdown at Gatwick Airport at 10:51 pm UTC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The aircraft involved in the incident is A320neo G-TTNR, and it is only two years old. Further, the BA took the delivery of it from Toulouse in Aug 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Heathrow IT Disruption<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

BA has reported ongoing cancellations due to a “knock-on effect of a technical issue.” Further causing staff to be in incorrect locations. As a result, 175 flights have been cancelled, impacting over 20,000 passengers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This situation has arisen on the UK’s busiest day for air travel since 2019. Data firm Cirium indicates that approximately 8% of BA’s scheduled Friday services, totalling 83 flights, were cancelled. This follows the cancellation of 92 flights on Thursday out of the 860 that were initially planned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

BA issued an apology on Thursday, attributing the cancellations to “technical problems” that led to online check-in difficulties. In a statement on Friday, the company acknowledged that most of its flights were operating as scheduled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, they had to cancel some short-haul flights from Heathrow due to the lingering impact of the previous day’s technical issue. BA stated that affected passengers were provided with the choice to rebook an alternative flight or request a refund.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
