According to Bryan Foong, the airline’s chief strategy officer, Malaysia Airlines will increase flights to India while decreasing flights to China due to the uncertainty surrounding the Covid-19 situation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Foong revealed that India is the airline’s main focus for growth, with the airline planning to send up to 60 flights per week into India over the summer months. On the other hand, China is currently seeing only 13 weekly inbound Malaysia Airlines flights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Malaysia Airlines Flights to India<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

According to ch-aviation<\/em> schedules data, Malaysia Airlines operates 26 weekly flights in China, providing 6,742 seats. In contrast, the airline’s capacity into India is far greater, with 106 weekly aircraft movements and 20,340 seats, or more than triple the airline’s current weekly capacity in and out of China. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Foong said that the airline would continue to reduce capacity in its domestic operations to put into international operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Eleven airlines operate scheduled flights on the Malaysia-China country pair. Including seven Chinese carriers and four Malaysian carriers. AirAsia is the largest operator in the country pair. Which provides 39.85% of all weekly available seats and 78 weekly roundtrips. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In contrast, only five airlines fly the Malaysia-India country pair, with Malaysia Airlines and AirAsia being the joint leaders, each providing 35.1% of the weekly available seats and 53 roundtrips each.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, ongoing Covid-19 testing requirements are reported to be a significant deterrent for travelers to and from China.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reports suggest that India-based IndiGo Airlines is looking to acquire widebody aircraft to bolster its international flying. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
