Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport in Delhi has been ranked as the world’s ninth busiest airport in 2022<\/strong>, handling 59.5 million passengers annually, according to data shared on Wednesday by the Airports Council International (ACI) <\/strong>World, a global organisation that measures and assesses airport standards. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Before the pandemic, IGI Airport was ranked 13th in 2021, and it was the 17th busiest airport in 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

ACI data also revealed a 60.2% increase in passenger traffic<\/strong> at the IGI Airport compared to the previous year, but it is still 13.1% lower than in 2019, indicating that, while passenger traffic has stabilised, it has yet to return to pre-pandemic levels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The IGI Airport was also the only South and Southeast Asian airport to make the top ten list. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the ACI report, the top ten airports for total passenger traffic, which account for 10% of global traffic, saw a 51.7% increase from 2021<\/strong>. However, overall passenger traffic at these airports was around 85% higher than in 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 \"With the resumption of international travel, preliminary figures indicate that 2022 global passenger traffic will reach close to 7 billion, representing an increase of 53.5% from 2021, <\/strong>or a 73.8% recovery from 2019 results,\" <\/em>ACI said in the report.<\/pre>\n\n\n\n
With 93.6 million passengers in 2022, the world’s busiest airport remained Georgia’s Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, <\/strong>which was also the busiest airport in 2021 and 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
 The IGI Airport was one position behind London’s Heathrow Airport, which handled 61.6 million passengers, and Paris’ Charles de Gaulle Airport<\/strong>, which handled 57.4 million passengers, was the world’s tenth busiest airport after the Delhi airport.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
According to Videh Kumar Jaipuriar, CEO of International Airport Limited (DIAL), the operator of IGI Aiport, the Delhi airport believes in being future-ready while maintaining global passenger experience standards for travellers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
