The Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport<\/strong> (CSMIA) in Mumbai has announced that both runways RWY 09\/27 and RWY 14\/32 <\/strong>will be closed for six hours on May 2 for maintenance work as part of its monsoon contingency plan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The scheduled temporary runway closure is an annual exercise, and a contingency plan will help maintain operational continuity and ensure passenger safety<\/strong>, the private airport operator said in a statement, according to PTI.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

The temporary closure will be from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., according to CSMIA, and a NOTAM<\/strong> (Notice to Airmen) has been issued in this regard. All operations will resume as usual on May 2 after 5 p.m., it added.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Mumbai Airport (CSMIA) handles approximately 900 flights per day. <\/strong>The repair work is done on a yearly basis, and regular maintenance, especially during the monsoon season, ensures operational continuity and passenger safety<\/em>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

\"The CSMIA is one of the busiest single runway airports<\/strong> in the world, with nearly 900 flight movements per day.\n\n The airport has nearly 1,033 acres of runways, taxiways, and apron space.<\/strong><\/em> \n\nThus, timely check and repair work on the runways and associated facilities is critical to maintaining their health and operational continuity<\/strong> during the monsoon months \"According to the official statement.<\/pre>\n\n\n\n

Before the monsoon hits the city, the 1033-acre runways, taxiways, aprons, and so on are repaired. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
“The yearly practise of runway maintenance work involves specialists in engineering and airside teams inspecting the runway surface for micro-texture and macro-texture wear and tear<\/strong> that may have occurred due to day-to-day operations and aiding in the strengthening of the airside strip,<\/strong>” according to a CSMIA statement.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
Because this is a planned activity, CSMIA informed its stakeholders six months ahead of time<\/strong>. In fact, because airlines are aware of the scheduled activity, they have already planned flight schedules accordingly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
