Debashis Chanda, a professor at UCF&#8217;s <strong>NanoScience Technology Center<\/strong>, led the study, which he said was inspired by butterflies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-verse\">\"<em>Structural colour serves as the primary <strong>color-generating mechanism<\/strong> in several extremely vivid species, where the geometrical arrangement of typically two colourless materials produces all colours.<\/em>\" In contrast, with <strong>manmade pigment<\/strong>, new molecules are required for each colour present,\" Chanda said in a statement.<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>The paint differs from pigment colourants in that structural colourants control how <strong>light is reflected, scattered, or absorbed <\/strong>based solely on the geometrical arrangement of nanostructures, whereas pigment colourants control light absorption based on the <strong>electronic property of the pigmenting material,<\/strong> with each colour requiring a new molecule.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/aviationa2z.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/CPL-7092.jpg\" alt=\"The world's  lightest paint has been developed by scientists at the University of Central Florida. It is said to last for centuries, be energy-efficient, and moldable into any colour.\" class=\"wp-image-30097\" width=\"291\" height=\"194\" srcset=\"https:\/\/aviationa2z.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/CPL-7092.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/aviationa2z.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/CPL-7092-600x400.jpg 600w, https:\/\/aviationa2z.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/CPL-7092-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/aviationa2z.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/CPL-7092-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/aviationa2z.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/CPL-7092-750x500.jpg 750w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 291px) 100vw, 291px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the researchers, the structural colours are environmentally friendly &#8220;<em>because they only use metals and oxides, as opposed to current pigment-based colours that use artificially synthesised molecules.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>According to the study, colour engineering can be accomplished by controlling the colorant&#8217;s absorptive or reflective response to white light. &#8220;<strong>Normal colour fades as a result of pigment losing its ability to absorb photons.<\/strong>&#8221; <\/p><p>That phenomenon does not apply here.<\/p><p> &#8220;Once we apply <strong>structural colour <\/strong>to something, it should last for centuries,&#8221; Chanda added.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>The paint is designed in such a way that it keeps the surface cooler than <em>standard commercial paint would.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;The temperature difference promised by plasmonic paint would result in <strong>significant energy savings.&#8221;<\/strong> &#8220;Using less electricity for cooling reduces carbon dioxide emissions, which <strong>reduces global warming<\/strong>,&#8221; Chanda explained, adding that plasmonic paint is also extremely lightweight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/aviationa2z.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/boeing_paint-sixteen_nine-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"The world's  lightest paint has been developed by scientists at the University of Central Florida.
