A female cancer patient is said to have been offloaded from an American Airlines flight on January 30<\/strong> as it was travelling from Delhi to New York.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The passenger, who has been identified as Meenakshi Sengupta<\/strong>, recently had surgery, and needed help from a flight attendant to keep her handbag, which weighs more than 5 pounds, in the overhead compartment. Sengupta complained to the Delhi Police and Civil Air that despite her requests for assistance, the flight attendant had declined to give them because of her frail limbs and the obvious brace she was wearing.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

“she had also requested wheelchair assistance to her seat because she CANNOT carry ANY weight in my hands at ALL and I’m weak from the surgery and don’t need to strain myself by walking a lot. She was also wearing a brace that was visible to everyone, so they were aware of her discomfort.”<\/em><\/strong><\/p>Meenakshi Sengupta complained to the Delhi Police<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Sengupta claimed that the ground staff was helpful and helped her board the aircraft and set her handbag down by her seat. Sengupta told the air hostess about her health problem once she was on board, but she made no attempt to help her place her handbag in the overhead compartment.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sengupta asked for assistance when the cabin lights were dimmed and an air hostess came over to put the handbag away, but the hostess rudely declined and said it was not their responsibility to help. Sengupta requested assistance several times, but the hostess continuously declined and moved away, leaving Sengupta to manage the suitcase by herself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Many people have been appealing on the Delhi Commission for Women and the Ministry of Civil Aviation<\/strong> to take action in response to the occurrence on social media.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The DGCA<\/strong> is aware of the situation and has asked American Airlines to submit a report. The airline said in a statement that Sengupta has been contacted by a member of its customer relations team to arrange a payment for the unused portion of her ticket.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

“In order to comply with crew member instructions, a passenger was kicked off American Airlines aircraft 293 from Delhi (DEL) to New York (JFK) on January 30 before to takeoff. Our customer service staff has gotten in touch with the customer to refund the unused portion of their ticket, and an inquiry is being conducted.”<\/em><\/strong><\/p>The declaration noted<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
