Photos from the event show that the 757&#8217;s winglet was nearly destroyed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><strong><em>&#8220;The left wing of United Airlines Flight 2135, a Boeing 757-200, was impacted by a Boeing 787 aircraft around 8:45 a.m. Friday at Newark Liberty International Airport.&#8221; &#8220;An aircraft tug was moving the second plane. The FAA will look into it.&#8221;<\/em><\/strong><\/p><cite>The FAA confirmed the incident to Insider in a statement<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Two United planes got involved in an avoidable ground incident, one Boeing 757-224 aircraft (N17133) clipped the winglet of a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner (N29981) during the push back at Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR\/KEWR) on 3rd February. <br><br>\ud83d\udcf8 kennykng &amp; Bala.<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/aircraft?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#aircraft<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/fMCogEuqBC\">pic.twitter.com\/fMCogEuqBC<\/a><\/p>&mdash; FL360aero (@fl360aero) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/fl360aero\/status\/1621559899149815810?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 3, 2023<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>When the two aircraft crashed, United passenger Rebecca Blum told that <strong>she heard a loud and felt a &#8220;jolt,&#8221;<\/strong> but claimed no one on board panicked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>The Orlando-bound passengers, who were on the plane when the incident occurred but were unharmed, were evacuated and rebooked on other flights,<\/em> United told Insider.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Three weeks ago, at New York&#8217;s John F. Kennedy Airport, a Delta Air Lines Boeing 737 and an American Airlines Boeing 777 came dangerously close to colliding. That incident led to Friday&#8217;s occurrence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When the American plane crossed the same active runway, the Delta plane was cleared and ready to take off. The 737 aircraft came to a stop just 1,000 feet from the 777, but the National Transportation Safety Board and the FAA are both now looking into the close call.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Although these two incidents happened immediately after one another, airborne crashes are uncommon. The two United Airlines flights were involved in a &#8220;<strong>on-gate<\/strong>&#8221; incident, which is more often between one plane and support vehicles like a food truck, <\/em>according to the aviation safety website SKYbrary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\nhttps:\/\/twitter.com\/FSXAviation3\/status\/1621581005105803264?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1621581005105803264%7Ctwgr%5Ebaaf165a9be42f3caa8144aa2f3dc045c702fc74%7Ctwcon%5Es1_c10&#038;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fliveandletsfly.com%2Funited-airlines-newark-collision%2F\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The FAA reports that <em>runway incursions, which occur when an aircraft is positioned incorrectly on a runway, happened 1,732 times in 2022, including the incident at New York-JFK. Out of the many millions of flights each year.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>These frequently happen at smaller airports and many of them can be attributed to pilot error.
