target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">U.S. Air Force<\/a><\/strong> aircraft that was conducting routine operations over the South China Sea on Dec. 21, nearly causing the planes to RC-135 plane,\u00a0the U.S. military stated in a report, adding that the American pilot was forced to take \u201cevasive maneuvers to avoid a collision.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-united-states-armed-forces\">United States Armed Forces<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The U.S. Indo-Pacific Command, which is part of the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/United_States_Armed_Forces\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">United States Armed Forces,<\/a><\/strong> stated in a report on Thursday that it expected all states in the region \u201cto use international airspace safely and by international law.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A spokesperson for the command, referring to China\u2019s People\u2019s Liberation Army by its initials, also stated in an email: \u201cWe have seen an alarming increase in the number of unsafe aerial intercepts and confrontations at sea by P.L.A. aircraft and vessels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSo this latest incident reflects a concerning trend of unsafe and dangerous intercept practices by the P.L.A. that are of grave concern to the United States.\u201d As to why the American military waited 8 days to publicize the encounter, another representative said, \u201cDisclosure of this type takes time to verify details, obtain and declassify imagery and make Friday, December 30, 2022, a spokesman for the Foreign Ministry did not directly answer to the question of whether a Chinese jet had operated dangerously. And it emphasized that it continued to \u201coppose any military pressure or coercion against our allies and partners in the region.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>China has long laid claim to the islands in the disputed South China Sea.\u00a0In a 2015 speech in Singapore,\u00a0China\u2019s top leader, Xi Jinping, told that the islands had been under Chinese control \u201csince ancient times\u201d and that China \u201cmust take responsibility to safeguard its territorial sovereignty and legitimate maritime interests.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Beijing has become more assertive in recent years, building military infrastructure in the sea and sending ships and aircraft around islands claimed by both Japan and China. Earlier this year, Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken\u00a0called China the biggest challenger to the international order\u00a0and told the United States would operate with allies to curb its aggressive actions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-australia-and-canada\">Australia and Canada<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Australia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Australia <\/a><\/strong>and Canada, both American allies, have recently accused the Chinese military of\u00a0unsafe intercepts\u00a0over Pacific waters. In June, Chinese jets\u00a0repeatedly buzzed a Canadian aircraft monitoring North Korea, coming so close sometimes that the pilots could see each other. In May, the <strong>Australian government\u00a0told<\/strong> that\u00a0a Chinese plane had fired flares, cut in front of an <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Australia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Australian <\/a><\/strong>aircraft, and ejected chaff, which contains metal operated to throw off missiles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote\"><blockquote><p>In answer, Senior Col.
