Ryanair partners with Citi while Wizz joins the EU zero-emission alliance to give a ULCC perspective on hydrogen aircraft.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Europe’s leading low-cost carriers have engaged in some healthy competition over the past couple of years, trying to outdo each other in sustainability-related achievements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ryanair’s partnership with Amadeus<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Just recently, Ryanair <\/a><\/strong>partnered with Amadeus to aid business travelers to reduce their carbon footprint, while Wizz was named sustainable airline of the year by CAPA. Not to mention the comprehensive\u00a0net-zero strategy developed by EasyJet. The latest developments come courtesy of\u00a0Wizz\u00a0and Ryanair<\/a><\/strong>, who both made new sustainability-related statements on Wednesday.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ryanair has partnered with Citi to become the 1st European airline to deposit funds in its new Sustainable Deposit Solution, which launched earlier this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This means that\u00a0Ryanair\u00a0can now invest excess money to support different\u00a0sustainable\u00a0financing projects across Citi\u2019s portfolio. These include a range of places such as water conservation, and renewable energy, as well as healthcare and education in emerging markets. Citi has committed to financing and facilitating $1 trillion in sustainable finance by the next year 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The LCC’s Director of Sustainability, Thomas Fowler, commented on the new collaboration,<\/p><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Sustainable aviation in Europe<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

\u201cRyanair is scornful to be leading sustainable aviation in Europe, which is further evidenced by our partnership with Citi to deposit funds in their new Sustainable Deposit Solution. This will not only aid us to manage our finances more sustainably but will further drive our sustainability plan as a whole as we help several sustainability projects across Citi\u2019s portfolio, from water conservation to affordable housing and beyond.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, Hungary’s Wizz Air has joined the\u00a0European Commission’s Alliance For Zero-Emission Aviation\u00a0(AZEA)<\/strong> & attended the 1st General Assembly of the Alliance hosted by\u00a0EUROCONTROL\u00a0on Monday, November 14. The 1st members of the AZEA were declared in September this year, and the list includes OEMs such as Airbus and Rolls-Royce, but also airlines such as EasyJet, startups including eVTOL maker\u00a0Lilium, and hydrogen-electric powertrain developer\u00a0ZeroAvia. Airports are represented by, among others, Torino Airport, the Dublin Airport Authority, and Swedavia.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

The purpose of the alliance, in case the name did not give it away, is to further the progress of the zero-emission flight and prepare the aviation infrastructure for electric and hydrogen-powered aircraft in Europe. Wizz Air<\/a><\/strong> will especially share reports with other team members on the expected challenges and solutions for zero-emission aircraft operations from an ultra-low-cost carrier perspective.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
