The passengers later boarded another aircraft that was expected to depart O\u2019Hare early Friday afternoon bound for <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Miami\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Miami International Airport<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"700\" height=\"420\" src=\"https:\/\/aviationa2z.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/United-airlines-GettyImages-455739122-700x420-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-27451\" srcset=\"https:\/\/aviationa2z.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/United-airlines-GettyImages-455739122-700x420-1.jpg 700w, https:\/\/aviationa2z.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/United-airlines-GettyImages-455739122-700x420-1-600x360.jpg 600w, https:\/\/aviationa2z.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/United-airlines-GettyImages-455739122-700x420-1-300x180.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><figcaption><strong>United Airlines | Aviationa2z.com<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>United Airlines provided no other details on the incident, including when it occurred, but a spokeswoman for the Chicago Department of Aviation said a \u201cstand-by alert\u201d was issued for Flight 1930 at 11:14 a.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The spokeswoman stated the situation was \u201csecured\u201d about 15 minutes later.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Kimberly Fiock was on the flight Friday\u00a0morning with her husband. &#8220;I knew something was wrong because there was fire below the wing that kept coming out in spurts, and it felt like the aircraft was kind of jerking,&#8221; Fiock told CNN.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;We could hear the pops of the engine trying to begin and see the fire on our side since we were right by the wing. The lights kept flickering, too, when it would pop. Flight tracking site FlightAware shows that Flight 1930 took off at 10:47 a.m. local time and returned to O&#8217;Hare 42 minutes later.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote\"><blockquote><p>A new aircraft was assigned to the flight, the airline stated, and it departed early Friday afternoon.<\/p><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-federal-aviation-administration\">Federal Aviation Administration<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.faa.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Federal Aviation Administration<\/a><\/strong>, there were more than 17,000 wildlife strikes at 753 US airports in 2019. Engines are the most frequently damaged component of civil aircraft in the US, according to the <strong>Federal Aviation Administration<\/strong>(FAA), accounting for about a quarter of all damaged aircraft components.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.faa.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Federal Aviation Administration<\/a><\/strong> has a\u00a0Wildlife Strike Database\u00a0tracking such incidents. The number of wildlife strikes with aircraft is on the rise, the FAA says on its wildlife site.
