Kirby demanded that Nolen\u2019s agency permit United to increase the number of departures and comings from Kennedy,&nbsp;according to an email cited by Reuters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"750\" height=\"422\" src=\"https:\/\/aviationa2z.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/JFK_JG_1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-27057\" srcset=\"https:\/\/aviationa2z.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/JFK_JG_1.jpg 750w, https:\/\/aviationa2z.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/JFK_JG_1-600x338.jpg 600w, https:\/\/aviationa2z.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/JFK_JG_1-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px\" \/><figcaption><strong>John F. Kennedy International Airport | Aviationa2z.com<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIf we are not able to get additional allocations for multiple seasons, we will need to suspend service at <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jfkairport.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>John F. Kennedy International Airport<\/strong><\/a><\/strong>, effective at the end of October,\u201d Kirby wrote. The <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.faa.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> Federal Aviation Administration <\/a><\/strong>told on Tuesday that it \u201cmust consider airspace capacity and runway capacity to assess how changes would affect flights at nearby airports.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The agency said that \u201cany additional slots at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jfkairport.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">JFK <\/a>would follow the <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.faa.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> Federal Aviation Administration&#8217;<\/a><\/strong>s<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.faa.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> <\/a><\/strong>well-established process of awarding them fairly and to raise competition.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote\"><blockquote><p>United has petitioned the FAA to award it more takeoff and landing authorizations at JFK \u201cso that we can develop to be more competitive.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-american-and-delta\"> American and Delta<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Chicago-based carrier, which is the third-largest domestic airline behind American and Delta, told that without more permanent slots, it cannot operate out of <strong>JFK &nbsp;<\/strong>\u201ceffectively compared to the larger schedules and more attractive flight times flown by our competitors,\u201d including JetBlue and American.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>United currently operates just 2 daily flights from JFK to both Los Angeles and San Francisco.&nbsp;Airline expert Robert Mann told the operation is too small for the carrier\u2019s threat to pull out to be \u201cmeaningful.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis is the same airline that complained bitterly a couple of weeks ago about a few airline flights out of Newark destroying their whole operation, so it\u2019s a little bit ironic\u2026 to arrive out and tell we want slots that don\u2019t exist at Kennedy so we can congest that operation and\u2026 [create] more delays,\u201d Mann told The Post.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a slot control at the airport, so they\u2019d either be taking slots away from someone towards United or it would mean granting new slots, which\u2026can be available to anyone not just United Airlines.\u201d In 2015,&nbsp;United&nbsp;pulled out of <strong>JFK&nbsp;<\/strong>and instead decided to concentrate on its local hub in Newark. Since joining the company from rival American, Kirby has been keen on re-establishing and expanding United\u2019s footprint in southeastern Queens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-john-f-kennedy-international-airport\">John F. Kennedy International Airport<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Last year, United returned to JFK \u2014citing demand from West Coast customers who insisted on flying directly into New York City rather than New Jersey. JFK is the 13th-busiest airport in the country. It is also the biggest terminus for international flights into and out of North America.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>United sees room to grow at JFK, citing large-scale infrastructure projects including \u201cthe widening of runways, construction of multi-entrance taxiways, and the creation of aligned high-speed turnoffs.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Newark&nbsp;is one of United\u2019s biggest hubs.&nbsp;The company operates 69% of its flights there, which translates into 425 flights per day.
