Alliance Air<\/strong>, which is owned by the government, pilots has gone on strike in protest of the restoration of pre-Covid pay.<\/strong> The airline’s operations have been severely disrupted by the strike, with almost three-fourths of all flights being cancelled. There are about 120 flights per day offered by the airline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Senior pilots have stated that they intend to continue the strike unless salary is restored, despite top airline executives’ claims that management will meet with the pilots to resolve the issue. After Air India’s divestiture, Alliance Air is the only airline that is still owned by the government. Now, AI Asset Holding Company is in charge of the airline.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The airline connects far-flung airports like Kullu, Dharamshalla, and Pasighat, Tezu, and Ziro in North East India, making it the primary airline for the government’s regional connectivity programme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to sources, before Covid, pilots were paid Rs 8,000 per hour, but as operations were hampered by the pandemic, the rate was reduced to Rs 1,500 per hour.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The airline’s pilots, however, are still receiving a significant pay cut, despite the fact that every department has returned to its pre-Covid salary and in some cases received an increment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Second, pilots used to receive an annual retention bonus. It has been paid in instalments over the past two years, which has angered numerous pilots as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The government has mandated that the airline uphold strict financial restraint in order to prevent further loss because it is also a candidate for privatisation.”<\/em><\/strong><\/p>According to a senior airline executive<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Alliance Air no longer a subsidiary of Air India<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

At the moment, Alliance Air operates a fleet of 19 turboprops<\/em>, including one Dornier and 18 ATRs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
