Since last year, there have been 90 visual sightings and 5,200 technical detections of drones within three miles of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flylax.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">LAX<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhile there are many beneficial uses for drones in our society, it is becoming far too common that drones are sighted around airports, which presents significant security risks and unnecessary disruptions to the traveling public,\u201d Rep.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lucille Roybal-Allard (D-Downey) stated in a report. Drones have been a repeated nuisance at LAX, with pilots reporting&nbsp;near misses&nbsp;while landing and taking off.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-transportation-security-administration\">Transportation Security Administration<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2020, multiple pilots told they had seen someone flying in a jetpack at a high altitude around the airport. The statements were never confirmed; the&nbsp;FBI told pilots may have been seeing balloons, and another theory was that the object could have been a drone with a <\/a>officials decided to test the new technology at LAX because it is one of the busiest airports in the country and because of the number of reported incidents involving drones,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsa.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> Transportation Security Administration (TSA)<\/a> Federal Security Director Keith Jeffries said in a statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsa.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">TSA<\/a>, the program at Miami, which was launched last summer, has
