Like their bigger sibling Air India, both airlines also said raised losses mainly due to successive COVID waves, increasing fuel prices, and depreciation of the Indian rupee against the US dollar.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-tata-group-and-airasia-investment-limited\">Tata Group and AirAsia Investment Limited<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Established in 2014 as a joint venture between the Tata Group and <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/AirAsia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">AirAsia Investment Limited,<\/a>&nbsp;AirAsia India&nbsp;initially had 51% ownership from Tata, which was increased to 83.67% in 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"https:\/\/aviationa2z.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/air-asia-plane-livery-art.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-25562\" srcset=\"https:\/\/aviationa2z.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/air-asia-plane-livery-art.webp 1024w, https:\/\/aviationa2z.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/air-asia-plane-livery-art-600x450.webp 600w, https:\/\/aviationa2z.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/air-asia-plane-livery-art-300x225.webp 300w, https:\/\/aviationa2z.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/air-asia-plane-livery-art-768x576.webp 768w, https:\/\/aviationa2z.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/air-asia-plane-livery-art-750x563.webp 750w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption><strong>AirAsia | Aviationa2z.com<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The airline has had a rough couple of years due to the pandemic, with its loss rising by 42% on a year-on-year basis to almost $275 million. Its revenue grew by almost 39% to $238 million, but a 67% hike in aviation turbine fuel and a weakening Indian rupee against the US dollar impacted the overall numbers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote\"><blockquote><p>Last year, AirAsia India posted an annual loss of $193 million, almost double the previous year, and a revenue of $171 million.<\/p><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>It has been shrinking its operations and returned seven&nbsp;Airbus A320&nbsp;planes to AirAsia Berhad, according to the Business Standard, and currently has a fleet of 26 A320s, per&nbsp;ch-aviation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tata Group\u2019s full-service carrier&nbsp;Vistara&nbsp;also struggled in the last fiscal. We also spent a large part of 2021 densifying our domestic network, expanding our international footprint, and investing in expanding our fleet.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-vistara-and-airasia-india\">Vistara and AirAsia India<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>While there has been no official statement so far, a merger with other Tata Group airlines has been predicted for both <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Vistara\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Vistara <\/a>and AirAsia India. Since commencing operations in 2015, Vistara has never turned a profit. However, it has tried to build a specific brand identity revolving around its services and a somewhat different experience from other Indian airlines, such as offering a&nbsp;premium economy&nbsp;product and Starbucks beverages onboard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fleet and network expansion has been a big part of Vistara\u2019s strategy, with the carrier aiming to have&nbsp;70 aircraft by March next year.
