{"id":25552,"date":"2022-08-11T16:26:09","date_gmt":"2022-08-11T10:56:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/aviationa2z.com\/?p=25552"},"modified":"2022-08-11T17:30:20","modified_gmt":"2022-08-11T12:00:20","slug":"china-and-uk-restart-direct-passenger-flights-after-20-months","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/aviationa2z.com\/index.php\/2022\/08\/11\/china-and-uk-restart-direct-passenger-flights-after-20-months\/","title":{"rendered":"China and UK agree to restart direct passenger flights between the two countries"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>The direct passenger flights between China and the UK will be restarted after 2 years after an agreement made by both governments.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The&nbsp;CAAC (<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Civil_Aviation_Administration_of_China\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Civil Aviation Administration of China<\/a>)&nbsp;and the UK Department for Transport have agreed to resume direct passenger flights between the 2 countries, according to a report from the British embassy in China issued on Wednesday.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-china-and-uk\">China and UK<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Update on direct flights between the UK and China <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/OjVWiRiEtu\">pic.twitter.com\/OjVWiRiEtu<\/a><\/p>&mdash; UK in China \ud83c\uddec\ud83c\udde7 (@ukinchina) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ukinchina\/status\/1557274145142046723?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">August 10, 2022<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><figcaption><strong>Aviationa2z.com<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Initially, the direct flights will be provided by Chinese airlines, while the resumption of flights conducted by&nbsp;British Airways&nbsp;is still ongoing, according to the information on the embassy&#8217;s official social media account.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the information gathered by reporters from airlines, 4 Chinese airlines have indicated their plans for resumption of flights between the UK and China.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Air China announced<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Air China&nbsp;will be the 1st Chinese domestic airline to restart this route. On August 8th, Air China declared that it would restart scheduled operations between<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Beijing_Capital_International_Airport\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">&nbsp;Beijing Capital International Airport<\/a> (PEK)&nbsp;and&nbsp;London Heathrow Airport (LHR)&nbsp;from August 11th, and operation between&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Shanghai_Pudong_International_Airport\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Shanghai Pudong International Airport <\/a>(PVG)&nbsp;and LHR from August 13th. Both routes are on a weekly basis and will be flown by the Airbus A330.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"976\" height=\"549\" src=\"https:\/\/aviationa2z.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/111217082_airchina.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-16070\" srcset=\"https:\/\/aviationa2z.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/111217082_airchina.jpg 976w, https:\/\/aviationa2z.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/111217082_airchina-600x338.jpg 600w, https:\/\/aviationa2z.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/111217082_airchina-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/aviationa2z.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/111217082_airchina-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/aviationa2z.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/111217082_airchina-750x422.jpg 750w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 976px) 100vw, 976px\" \/><figcaption><strong>Air China | Aviationa2z.com<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Air China set the base cost for the economy, premium economy, and business class at 12,270 RMB (1,822 US dollars), 18,440 RMB (2,738 US dollars), and 42,720 RMB (6,278 US dollars) respectively, which are much expensive than the fare before the pandemic, but significantly reduced from any current transit flight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>China Eastern Airlines, one day after Air China&#8217;s announcement, told it would restart operation between Shanghai Pudong Airport and London Heathrow Airport, although the flights currently are only scheduled on August 12th and 19th in China Eastern&#8217;s announcement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>China Southern Airlines&nbsp;published a piece of information about ticket booking between&nbsp;Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport (CAN)&nbsp;and London Heathrow Airport early last February. There has been no news since then, until today, when China Southern officially declared the mentioned routes would be restarted from August 17th.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Below is the first batch of direct routes restarted between China and the UK:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table is-style-stripes\"><table class=\"has-black-color has-pale-cyan-blue-background-color has-text-color has-background\"><tbody><tr><td>August 11th<\/td><td>Air China<\/td><td>CA937<\/td><td>PEK-LHR<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>August 12th<\/td><td>China Eastern<\/td><td>MU551<\/td><td>PVG-LHR<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>August 13th<\/td><td>Air China<\/td><td>CA849<\/td><td>PVG-LHR<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>August 17th<\/td><td>China Southern<\/td><td>CZ303<\/td><td>CAN-LHR<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>August 19th<\/td><td>Capital Airlines (Subsidiary of Hainan Airlines)<\/td><td>JD431<\/td><td>TAO-LHR<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>It is worth noting that all flights are selling one-way tickets from China to the UK at the moment, and no tickets are sold for the return flights back to China, presumably due to China&#8217;s strict COVID prevention policy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"20-months-suspension-of-direct-flights-between-china-and-the-uk\">20 months suspension of direct flights <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Many countries, including China, suspended flights to and from the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/United_Kingdom\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">UK <\/a>after 2 new coronavirus strains were discovered in the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/United_Kingdom\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">UK <\/a>in December 2020. Passengers have mainly relied on connecting flights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>For example, a flight from Guangzhou Baiyun Airport to London Heathrow Airport needs a transit in Paris, and the journey takes up to 27 hours.
