India’s Largest Airline IndiGo is all set to get the second largest Maintenance Facility<\/strong> at Bangalore airport (BIAL).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Indigo as of august 2022 has 56% of the Market share<\/strong> in terms of passengers traveled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Planespotters.net, The airline is having a huge fleet of 260 aircraft<\/strong> with 25 on orders<\/strong> with an average fleet age of 3.3 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Indigo is rapidly expanding its fleet and to cater to the demands, it started building Best-in-class Maintenance facility in Bangalore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The airline<\/a> partnered with Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL<\/a>) to build its second largest maintenance facility at Bangalore airport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The partnership was announced on 31st Jan 2019<\/strong> and was expected to be completed by 2020<\/strong>. But due to Covid 19 Pandemic, the work got delayed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The BIAL which looks after Kempegowda international airport has allocated 5 acres of land for 13,000 sq ft <\/strong>of the maintenance facility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

IndiGo airlines has largest Maintenance Overhaul and Repair facility in Delhi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The goal is to reduce their dependency on overseas maintenance and to cut costs<\/strong> drastically by creating facilities in India.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Once the Maintenace facility and Hangar are operational it will be able to carry out in-house C-checks<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Currently Indigo is one of the Largest Airbus A320 operators in the world and the Hangar will facilitate 2 airbus planes<\/strong> at a time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Facility is expected to have a huge support infrastructure which will include, Quick engine change equipment and shops, a Warehouse for spares and tools, and Engineering & maintenance offices for its Engineering team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Comments by IndiGo and BIAL<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

IndiGo\u2019s chief operating officer Wolfgang Prock-Schauer, said earlier during the partnership,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cKempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru (KIAB), with its strategic location<\/strong>, will play an even more important role going forward. The work is nearing completion and it is expected to be opened by the end of this year<\/strong> (2022).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Indigo airlines have one of the huge maintenance staff in India and are expected to grow this number to successfully carry out maintenance on Airbus and ATR Fleet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Once operational it will be the second largest maintenance hangar of the airline after the Delhi hangar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
