In the past two and a half years, a total of 60 pilots and 150 members of the cabin crew tested positive after undergoing a breathalyzer (BA) test.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

About Pilots and Cabin crew Breathalyser Test<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

To make sure that the safety of pilots and cabin staff is not jeopardized by their drinking, breathalyser tests are carried out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As required by Civil Aviation Requirements (CAR) Section-5, Series-F, Part-III<\/strong>, no licenses have been terminated between January 1, 2020, and June 30, 2022. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, 210 pilots and crew members have all been placed on administrative leave.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The compliance of the airlines with the rules and requirements of civil aviation is being monitored by a systematic safety oversight mechanism, according to a Thursday response to the Parliament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Annual Surveillance Plan (ASP) of the DGCA involves,<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. regulatory audits, <\/li>
  2. spot checks, and <\/li>
  3. surveillance as part of this ongoing process. <\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    The operator in question is contacted to ensure compliance with the findings of safety monitoring activities, and only after proper verification observations will be closed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    During the upcoming audit and surveillance, the operator’s action is checked for compliance. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    If any infractions or noncompliance with regulations are found during audit and surveillance, the DGCA will take enforcement action, which may include imposing a financial penalty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Alcohol present in the body even in small quantities jeopardizes flight safety on multiple counts. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    It is likely to negatively influence an aviator well into the hangover period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    According to DGCA advice, even 12 hours after a bout of drinking when blood alcohol level remained zero.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n
