{"id":21824,"date":"2022-06-25T08:22:47","date_gmt":"2022-06-25T02:52:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/aviationa2z.com\/?p=21824"},"modified":"2022-06-25T08:23:05","modified_gmt":"2022-06-25T02:53:05","slug":"air-india-offers-to-re-hire-retired-pilots-for-a-period-of-5-years","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/aviationa2z.com\/index.php\/2022\/06\/25\/air-india-offers-to-re-hire-retired-pilots-for-a-period-of-5-years\/","title":{"rendered":"Air India offers to re-hire retired pilots for a period of 5 years"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-drop-cap\"><strong>According to an internal message, Air India, which is controlled by the Tata Group, has offered to re-hire pilots after they retire for a five-year period as the airline seeks operational stability amid rumours of acquiring 300 single-aisle aircraft.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Air India, the company is considering rehiring these pilots as commanders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" src=\"https:\/\/aviationa2z.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/2a.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-21825\" srcset=\"https:\/\/aviationa2z.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/2a.jpg 800w, https:\/\/aviationa2z.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/2a-600x450.jpg 600w, https:\/\/aviationa2z.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/2a-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/aviationa2z.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/2a-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/aviationa2z.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/2a-750x563.jpg 750w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>According to a senior official, the airline has asked retired pilots for their permission to fill this position.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the official, the communication has been given to the pilots who have been retired for up to three years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>This occurs at the same time that the full-service carrier launched a voluntary retirement programme for its staff, including cabin crew, and at the same time that it began hiring new personnel for the once state-controlled carrier.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Compared to other important roles like cabin personnel and aircraft maintenance engineers, pilots are an airline&#8217;s most expensive asset and earn the most money.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Additionally, the domestic aviation business has traditionally struggled with a lack of qualified pilots.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Vikas Gupta, the deputy general manager for personnel at Air India, wrote in an internal email, &#8220;<strong><em>We are glad to announce you are being considered for post-retirement contract as commander in Air India for a period of 5 years or till you attain the age of 65 years, whichever is earlier.&#8221;<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-style-large is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><strong><em>&#8220;You would be given the compensation and flying allowances, as admissible, as per policy of Air India to such appointments during the length of the after retirement contract<\/em><\/strong>&#8220;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>The deadline for interested pilots to submit their information and written consent is June 23.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/aviationa2z.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/23-35-36-air-indias-a320neo-planes-engine-shuts-down-mid-air-makes-emergency-landing-at-mumbai-airport.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-21826\" srcset=\"https:\/\/aviationa2z.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/23-35-36-air-indias-a320neo-planes-engine-shuts-down-mid-air-makes-emergency-landing-at-mumbai-airport.jpg 600w, https:\/\/aviationa2z.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/23-35-36-air-indias-a320neo-planes-engine-shuts-down-mid-air-makes-emergency-landing-at-mumbai-airport-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The Air India representative was contacted about this, but no comment was received.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Following a successful bid for the airline in October of last year, Tata Group assumed ownership of the airline on January 27 of this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Like all other employees of the airline, Air India&#8217;s pilots have a 58-year-old retirement age. Prior to the pandemic, Air India would contract-rehire its retired pilots, but after late March 2020, the practise was abandoned.
