Srilankan Airways praised its pilots on <\/strong>Wednesday for safely commandeering a flight from London to Colombo on Monday, following reports that a national carrier plane narrowly avoided colliding with a British Airways flight over Turkey. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

On June 13, the \"vigilance of the pilots and the state-of-the-art interaction and surveillance programme onboard<\/strong> the plane enabled safe passage for UL 504\", according to the national provider. <\/pre>\n\n\n\n

“Furthermore, SriLankan Airways commends the timely action of the pilots flying UL 504<\/strong>, which secured the safety of all passengers, crew, and equipment onboard UL 504<\/strong>,” the carrier said in a statement. <\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
According to reports, the aeroplane carrying 275 passengers had crossed Turkish airspace shortly after departing Heathrow on its way to Colombo. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
If the UL pilot had climbed to the requested altitude, the UL flight would have collided head-on with the British Airways flight<\/strong>, which was moving at a faster speed than the UL flight, according to the Daily Mirror newspaper. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
