Japan Airlines will buy 26.5 million gallons of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) as part of a commitment made by&nbsp;<b>Oneworld<\/b> Alliance members.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-japan-airlines\">Japan Airlines  <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The airline will buy over five million gallons of SAF each year over five years from US-based company Gevo, with deliveries expected to begin from 2027.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Japan Airlines&nbsp;(JAL) has reached a deal to bring in 5.3 million gallons of&nbsp;sustainable aviation fuel&nbsp;annually over a five-year time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"630\" src=\"https:\/\/aviationa2z.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/Japan_Airlines_JA8119.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-21276\" srcset=\"https:\/\/aviationa2z.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/Japan_Airlines_JA8119.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/aviationa2z.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/Japan_Airlines_JA8119-600x378.jpg 600w, https:\/\/aviationa2z.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/Japan_Airlines_JA8119-300x189.jpg 300w, https:\/\/aviationa2z.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/Japan_Airlines_JA8119-768x484.jpg 768w, https:\/\/aviationa2z.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/Japan_Airlines_JA8119-750x473.jpg 750w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><figcaption><strong> Japan Airlines | Aviationa2z.com<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>This comes after the<strong>&nbsp;Oneworld<\/strong>&nbsp;Alliance, of which JAL is a member airline, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with&nbsp;SAF&nbsp;producer Gevo in March 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Dr. Patrick R. Gruber, Gevo\u2019s Chief Executive Officer, told,<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><em>&#8220;JAL sees the value in reducing its dependence on fossil fuels while still being able to continue to use its current aircraft. The company uses the Argonne GREET model, considered the gold standard model of life cycle emissions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Paul D. Bloom, Ph.D., Gevo\u2019s Chief Carbon Officer, and Chief Innovation Officer, went into more detail on Gevo&#8217;s process, saying,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>&#8220;Net-Zero Fuels are made by using low-carbon feedstocks produced with climate-smart agricultural practices and by eliminating fossil-based energy from the business system as much as possible.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>&#8220;Our sustainable aviation fuel is a drop-in fuel that delivers renewable energy where it\u2019s needed. According to Gevo,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>&#8220;[Our model] can reduce greenhouse-gas emissions to net-zero over the entire lifecycle of each gallon of advanced renewable fuel, like SAF, and that includes the emissions resulting from burning the fuel in engines to power transportation.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-delta-air-lines-for-75-million-gallons-of-sustainable-aviation-fuel\">Delta Air Lines for 75 million gallons of sustainable aviation fuel  <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Gevo also has a deal with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.delta.com\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener sponsored nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Delta Air Lines<\/a> for 75 million gallons of sustainable aviation fuel each year for seven years.
