Nonetheless, it only reached into existence as a separate entity, namely Lufthansa Technik, in January 1995. However, while this branch of the company was a new creation, its primary base was not. This facility is found in Hamburg, in northern Germany.

Hamburg is an interesting location for such a base. It is a key city for European aviation, with Airbus including a significant presence there. However, for Lufthansa, it is a small airport. Indeed, the German flag carrier serves just two domestic routes from there. As such, the reason for Lufthansa Technik’s significant presence in Hamburg is a historical one.

A maintenance base has existed in Hamburg since 1951

This predates the post-war establishment of Lufthansa as Germany’s new peacetime flag carrier in 1953. However, the reason for the base’s construction was, in fact, in preparation for the new airline’s takeoff. Today, it hosts some 7,500 employees over more than 750,000 square meters.

Also, read

SpiceJet flights stopped at Delhi Airport for non-payment to AAI; airline says problem resolved

Good news for passengers: SpiceJet to offer this important in-flight service soon. The furthest west of these is located in Shannon, Ireland. Shannon is also home to a Lufthansa Technik aviation training academy, and an engine component repair shop (Lufthansa Technik Turbine Shannon). Lufthansa Technik also has bases in the following European locations. Some are general maintenance bases, whereas others have particular specialties. For example, the company’s UK base in Hayes, London specializes in ‘Landing Gear Services.’

Brussels, Belgium.

Budapest, Hungary.

London, UK.

Luqa, Malta.

Milan, Italy.

Moscow, Russia

Sofia, Bulgaria.

In the rest of the world, Lufthansa Technik also has an established presence in several key non-European places almost the world.
