{"id":20571,"date":"2022-05-15T16:41:18","date_gmt":"2022-05-15T11:11:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/aviationa2z.com\/?p=20571"},"modified":"2022-05-15T16:41:20","modified_gmt":"2022-05-15T11:11:20","slug":"a-total-of-84-people-working-at-42-indian-airports-were-found-drunk-on-duty-between-january-2021-and-march-2022-as-per-the-data-of-the-aviation-regulator-directorate-general-of-civil-aviation-dgca","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/aviationa2z.com\/index.php\/2022\/05\/15\/a-total-of-84-people-working-at-42-indian-airports-were-found-drunk-on-duty-between-january-2021-and-march-2022-as-per-the-data-of-the-aviation-regulator-directorate-general-of-civil-aviation-dgca\/","title":{"rendered":"DGCA: 84 employees at 42 Indian airports found drunk on duty"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-drop-cap\"><strong>A total of 84 staff working at 42 Indian airports were found drunk on duty between January 2021 and March 2022, as per the data of the aviation regulator <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dgca.gov.in\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener sponsored nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Directorate General of Civil Aviation <\/a>(DGCA).<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fifty-four (64 percent) of the 84 workers who failed the mandatory alcohol tests were drivers, stated the DGCA&#8217;s data, which has been accessed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>While many of the workers who failed the alcohol tests were operated by airport operators, a significant section of them were employed by other companies &#8212; catering companies, ground handling companies, aircraft maintenance companies, etc &#8212; which work at the airport.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"768\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/aviationa2z.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/dgca-161204074616-thumbnail-4.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-20574\" srcset=\"https:\/\/aviationa2z.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/dgca-161204074616-thumbnail-4.webp 768w, https:\/\/aviationa2z.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/dgca-161204074616-thumbnail-4-600x450.webp 600w, https:\/\/aviationa2z.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/dgca-161204074616-thumbnail-4-300x225.webp 300w, https:\/\/aviationa2z.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/dgca-161204074616-thumbnail-4-750x563.webp 750w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><figcaption><strong>  Directorate General of Civil Aviation | Aviationa2z.com<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-adani-group-run-airports\">Adani Group-run airports <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>56 employees at 35 Airports Authority of India (AAI)-run airports,\u00a017 workers at four<a href=\"https:\/\/www.adani.com\/businesses\/airports\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener sponsored nofollow\" target=\"_blank\"> Adani G<\/a>roup-run airports, nine workers at two GMR group-run airports, and two workers at Fairfax India-run Bengaluru airport failed the alcohol tests between January 2021 and March 2022, as per the DGCA data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, Bengaluru airport&#8217;s operator BIAL clarified that the two workers who failed the alcohol tests were not its workers.\u00a0 &#8220;Bengaluru airport (BIAL) has not had any instances of its workers failing the breath analyzer test in 2021, and so far this year,&#8221; it told.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When questioned about the aforementioned DGCA data of 56 employees failing the alcohol tests, the Centre-run AAI shared with\u00a0PTI\u00a0its own data stating that only 18 workers at 14 AAI-run airports failed the alcohol tests between January 2021 and March 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Out of 18 employees who failed the BA [breath analyzer] test, three were from the AAI and the remaining 15 were from AAI contracting agencies,&#8221; the AAI said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the inquiry of what action was taken against the workers who were found drunk, the AAI told, &#8220;Appropriate action as per the prevailing guidelines has been initiated.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote\"><blockquote><p>The Adani Group and the GMR group did not reply to the reports series regarding this matter.<\/p><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-mumbai-airport-was-under-the-control-of-the-gvk-group\">Mumbai airport was under the control of the GVK Group <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The airport where the highest number of workers (nine workers) failed the alcohol tests between January 2021 and March 2022 was the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Chhatrapati_Shivaji_Maharaj_International_Airport\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener sponsored nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Mumbai airport<\/a>, which has been under the control of the Adani Group since July last year. Before July 2021, the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Chhatrapati_Shivaji_Maharaj_International_Airport\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener sponsored nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Mumbai airport<\/a> was under the management of the GVK Group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The GMR group-run Delhi airport was at number two with eight workers failing the alcohol tests in the aforementioned 15-month-time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"481\" src=\"https:\/\/aviationa2z.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/Navi-Mumbai-International-Airport-project-details.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-19385\" srcset=\"https:\/\/aviationa2z.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/Navi-Mumbai-International-Airport-project-details.jpg 650w, https:\/\/aviationa2z.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/Navi-Mumbai-International-Airport-project-details-600x444.jpg 600w, https:\/\/aviationa2z.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/Navi-Mumbai-International-Airport-project-details-300x222.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px\" \/><figcaption>Mumbai airport | Aviationa2z.com<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Aviation regulator DGCA had in September 2019 issued rules for BA test for all airport workers. AAI HODs [head of departments] at respective airports sensitize their employees and the employees engaged by the contracting agencies regarding non-consumption of alcohol\/alcoholic drinks while on duty and apprises them of the penalties mentioned in the DGCA CAR [regulation].&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-airports-authority-of-india-employees\">Airports Authority of India Employees<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Further, action is also initiated against the AAI workers, who fail the BA test repeatedly as per Airports Authority of India Employees (Conduct, Discipline, and Appeal) Regulations, 2003,&#8221; the AAI said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The airports in Guwahati, Jaipur, and Lucknow are run by the Adani group.
