{"id":19560,"date":"2022-04-08T12:10:25","date_gmt":"2022-04-08T06:40:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/aviationa2z.com\/?p=19560"},"modified":"2022-04-08T12:10:30","modified_gmt":"2022-04-08T06:40:30","slug":"breaking-news-after-skidding-off-a-runway-in-costa-rica-a-dhl-cargo-plane-splits-in-two","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/aviationa2z.com\/index.php\/2022\/04\/08\/breaking-news-after-skidding-off-a-runway-in-costa-rica-a-dhl-cargo-plane-splits-in-two\/","title":{"rendered":"Breaking News: After skidding off a runway in Costa Rica, a DHL cargo plane splits in two"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-drop-cap\">While landing at <strong>San Jose&#8217;s international airport<\/strong> on Thursday, a <strong>DHL cargo plane<\/strong> went off the runway and broke in half, momentarily shutting down the <strong>airport<\/strong> but not hurting the crew.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>The Boeing 757 had taken off from <strong>Juan Santamaria Airport, <\/strong>just west of the city, but had to return due to a <strong><em>hydraulic system malfunction on runway, <\/em><\/strong>according to the fire department.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"389\" height=\"216\" src=\"https:\/\/aviationa2z.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/costa-rica.jpg\" alt=\"While landing at San Jose's international airport on Thursday, a DHL cargo plane went off the runway and broke in half runway\" class=\"wp-image-19561\" srcset=\"https:\/\/aviationa2z.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/costa-rica.jpg 389w, https:\/\/aviationa2z.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/costa-rica-300x167.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 389px) 100vw, 389px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Hector Chaves, director of the <strong>Costa Rica Fire Department,<\/strong> the plane <em>skidded, flipped, and broke in half upon landing, exposing the payload.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>Chaves added, <\/p><p>&#8220;<strong>Units mobilised to remove the pilot and co-pilot<\/strong>.&#8221; <\/p><p>&#8220;After that, they used foam to prevent a spill, and now they&#8217;re working on an <strong>earthen barrier<\/strong> to keep the fuel out of the drainage system.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Both pilots were uninjured, according to a <em>DHL representative, but one was receiving a medical examination<\/em> as a precaution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"BREAKING: DHL 757 Skids Off Runway, Breaks In Half Landing In Costa Rica.
