Rakesh Gangwal<\/strong>, creator of the airline IndiGo<\/a>, has donated Rs 100 crore to the Indian Institute of Technology-Kanpur<\/strong> to establish a school of medical sciences and technology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

IIT-Kanpur has also received a further Rs. 200 crore in gifts from other alumni for the medical facility, <\/strong>which will include a 450-bed super specialty hospital and many centres of excellence, according to Abhay Karandikar, the institute’s director.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The medical sciences and technology school <\/strong>would include engineering research in the medical sciences field and will cost a total of 600 crore to build.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The school and centres of excellence have already received half of their funding. <\/strong><\/p>

Because engineering research is utilised in the medical field, IIT-endeavor Kanpur’s <\/strong>will cause disturbance “Karandikar stated.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

The IIT is already establishing centres of competence in telemedicine, AI healthcare, infectious illnesses, non-invasive imaging, and other fields. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“These centres are up and functioning in Kanpur at the moment,” he said.<\/p><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Ahe institution is expected to open in the following two to three years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Karandikar had previously tweeted: “IIT Kanpur has some exciting news to share. Mr Rakesh Gangwal, an IIT Kanpur graduate, has made one of the greatest personal donations in history with a commitment of Rs 100 crore to assist the School of Medical Sciences and Technology<\/em>.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Indian Institute of Science (IISc), <\/strong>Bengaluru, announced in March that Quess Corp founder Ajit Isaac and his wife Sarah Isaac had pledged a funding of 105 crore to create a public health centre on its campus. Sushmita and Subroto Bagchi, as well as Radha and NS Parthasarathy, who<\/strong> were part of the founding team at IT services firm Mindtree, had given IISc a private donation of Rs 425 crore to create an 800-bed <\/strong>multispecialty hospital and a post-graduate medical school.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
